Hello everyone

I want to discuss this with all Silent Hill fans here
I just watched the Silent hill TGS trailer and was very frustrated . . . . WHY?

1.the music is not by Akira T_T , and it's terrible TT_TT
2.I can't see any of the legendary Silent hill creatures [Pyramid head - the Nurses - weird creatures that we can't see them in any other game.
3.it looks like Alan Wake.

what you think of the trailer?
watch it here

I havent played any Silent Hill game (sorry)
but i was really into the trailer. Seems like everytime a new game comes out, its automatically compared to another game which sucks because the only thing that reminded me of alan wake was the main guy had black hair. I liked the music (korn) but i doubt thats going to be the ingame music. And I saw some pretty terrifying images while watching.. whether it was creatures or just the settings. Looks like what a survival horror game is supposed to be like

ok so i watched both of them and what i could get out of it is that Silent Hill has no connection when making sequels. I'm guessing the over all theme of Silent Hill is still present tho. U do something wrong and then u end up at Silent hill to fight for your life? (dunno) But what i'm getting at is these two trailers have nothing in common and so the feel for "Homecoming" had a re assuring song. Not a very sad song but a feeling of doubt and that there might be light at the end of the road. As for "Downpour" the guy is an escaped convict, i think, and is looking for revenge. (i think) so the music had a very disturbing, and grittier feel to it. I think Silent Hill should be the next game i play!! because according to these trailers they seem to stick to the survival horror genre faithfully. (Unlike others)
so my overall verdict will be........................

Dunno, they both look really good. I dont see much thats outta place. The music fits the tone of each respecting titles.

I know that each part of the series has a different story BUT they are all about silent hill.

What is the thing that makes you know if this is silent hill or not?

1. If there is no fog then it's not silent hill.
2. If you don't meet or see the Boogie man [Pyramid head] then it's not silent hill.
3. If the place is not very dark then it's not silent hill.
4. If there is no Darkness in the game [When it gets dark and everything goes red] then it's not silent hill.
5. If the creatures have heads and legs and don't look weird then it's not Silent hill.

(This is about silent hill as a city not as a game)

and about Silent Hill as a series there is only one thing . . . If the music is not made by Akira Yamaoka then it doesn't belong to the series.

I did notice in downpours trailer, there werent really scary creatures, but there were some things. and why does fog have to be in the game? Is there a reason why you have to meet the Boogie man?

Silent hill shattered memories
it wasn't silent hill for me cuz there is no Darkness , they called it nightmare.

about the bogy man , there are allot of them roaming everywhere in the city , it is right that he hadn't appear in every game but he is one of the legendary creatures of silent hill.

and about the creatures , you can see how ugly and weird the silent hill creatures look.

I only played Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3, and I thought that those games are awesome, but too scary for me. I am saddened as well to see Akira Yamaoka's absence as the music composer for the game, but I think a change would be good. I don't mind listening to Korn's music, but I thought that the game would do much better without having Korn's music as it's theme song.

As for the game itself, I think the game looks more scarier than some of it's predecessor games, like Silent Hill 4. Honestly, I am more interested in playing the game because the new gameplay scheme looks great. I don't care if the game has no fog, no Pyramid Heads, no Akira Yamaoka's music, not a true Silent Hill game or whatever. The game looks great, and I will play it when it comes out.

The trailer is awesome. But if the trailer's music is replaced by the new composer's horror, scary music, then the trailer would be much better.

whoa, cool
i guess ur right. Game needs fog. But like chaos Raiden said, as long as it stays true to its survival horror genre i dont see why it cant still be Silent hill even without all its trademarks. I think that being different could also be very scary since everything about silent hill up till now has had certain ingredients. So with out it i would think a little anxiety would certainly be there since there will no longer be anything familiar. Nothing would be safe anymore. I'm not saying it was safe from before, i'm saying change is sometimes very un-nerving and a game like silent hill should of been changing the atmosphere from day one to keep it fresh and unpredictable. But i'm not hating the game. Never even played it yet. I did see the movie, which i think is one of the best video game movies ever made.

Agreed. I don't care if it's "not Silent Hill", if the game looks fun, I will play it. Same logic I hold with DmC.

They changed parts of the Silent Hill formula, but I don't care. If the game is fun and I enjoy it, then I consider it money well spent.

BTW A.$h!nati, not every Silent Hill game requires a Bogeyman/Pyramid Head. 1, 3, and 4 didn't have him and I liked those games.

If Silent Hill hadn't been mentioned then I wouldn't have guessed but that doesn't mean it's a bad thing infact the trailer looks good and interesting but they could have picked someone better than Korn while I'm listening.

Just watched the trailer and I think this looks pretty good. I've played Silent Hill, 2, 3, Origins and Shattered Memories, i've been interested in 4 and homecoming but i've never got around to buying them. I really like how the game is replacing the fog with water, its different and will definately make it stand out; It seems like a rebirth of silent hill. The monsters seem pretty generic in my opinion, the only one i'm interested in is the 'Barbie'. The fact that pyramid head isn't in it makes it even better, as i've said I haven't played homecoming but he seemed to be there for no reason. Pyramid Head was a personification of James' guilt and he wished to be punnished, I wouldn't mind another boogeyman like the one in origins; but pyramid head? No, he should stay in SH2. The only thing I don't like is the music isn't being composed by Akira, Korn does not fit the SH atmosphere.
