Everyone, I just meant the decision to reboot the franchise in general, not the company they choose.
I guess for me, I think they should have been chosen to do a revamp rather than a reboot as it is a truer test of their storytelling skills than a reboot to me.
Anyone can reboot but it takes a true genius to revamp.
By nature, I understand the desire to not want to have to deal with the mess that the previous creators left behind but then NT should have stuck to doing New IPs because a reboot will always be brought up to the old canon and be compared and contrasted regardless.
DMC does have a built in fan-base that is sick and tired of the series being handle by creators who dont want to fix what came before. So the easiest way to appease them would be to do just that and fix up the canon, making it more cohesive.
If you weren't asking about Ninja Theory, then leave them out of the question. This is about the project, before NT was involved, from Capcom's perspective. Stop throwing the hired developer under the bus.
You can't Change the past, you can only create a new future. That's what they're doing.
Devil may cry was a grand expansion of the action genre. Gameplay came first story was an afterthought. Gameplay was advanced to a point that action games HAD to get better to compete. The result, we get better, more satisfying games. Now, we have the tools and ability to expand further upon the last generation in areas previously denied to us and all people seem to want is to move backwards. We have the tools at our disposal, This game will push the expectations of what we as gamers demand from creators further thus giving us a more rounded fulfilling experience.
You refer to the series as a 'mess' yet, you want it continued with a bit of hammer and nails to cover it up? You familiar with the phrase "You can't polish a turd?" Imagine James Cameron took over the Transformers films WHERE Micheal Bay left off instead of starting it over from the beginning? Imagine you had to build a skyscraper over a structure made of Popsicle sticks? Why would anyone want to give a great story teller anything but the full set proper tools and material in which to build a foundation to do the best job they could?
It's as if you took the best cuts of beef off the cow to make processed dog food and left a gourmet chef with nothing but the tough, tasteless gristle and bone to to invent a three course meal out of.
Capcom told Ninja Theory " Here are the pieces. We've built it once. You've seen it. It was alright. Now, let's take these pieces. Let's... DO something new with them." Ninja Theory put on their glasses took a close look smiled and said "Let's see what We can do." Now, we're seeing that, and there's so much more to show.
Oh, by the way, this is a revamp.
