Sephirothic Fruit Problem

Hello guys, I am having a big problem with the game... once I beat echidna and get the sephirothic fruit, I cant seem to proceed past the tree roots to end the mission... I get close to the roots but nothing happens, and I ve tried everything... anyone has any clue why this is happening?

Have you tried pressing the A or B button (for Xbox 360) or X or Circle button (for PS3) at the trees?
