Sega on Japanese games trying to be more western

Well, he hit the nail on the head. All game franchises should have and keep their own uniqueness, which is one of my remaining issues with DmC being a part of a franchise that it differs so far from. Really, if Capcom wanted something different with DMC formula, they could have just made a completely different game to act as a spiritual descendant of the series, instead of trying to reboot it.
 
I agree with Railazel but feel that his game Binary Domain was said to be a gears of war clone so he might not be the best person to say this.
 
I thought games were created by people not an entire culture. Its not wrong if a Japanese guy wants to make a game with western influences. NT made HS and that game had all kinds of eastern flare in it. What i think they mean by being "Japanese games" is the over done Gundam games and stupid Dynasty warriors crap. But a lot of games have come from Japanese developers that were good and had no western influences.
If you got an idea, then use it and make any game you want

Except the games that aren't ported across the continents. Many Japanese games stay ONLY in Japan and then there is Australia which miss alot of games, because they are never ported to there.

for ps3 users, that really isnt an issue anymore. Its just the translation that messes it up. But DMC HD will be in english non the less right?

I know that the newest Mortal Kombat game have never been released in Australia and probably never will be.

This ps2 wasn't region free, it would only play foreign region games if the system was modded or have some type of "boot up" disk to play them.
The ps3 should be able to play any ps3 title

It is. PS2 and 1 used a Pal code, that differed from region to region. Note, I say region, because I played games from UK on my german PS2, so I guess it was linked continentally somehow.
Can't really say anything about it, I never did any research on that.

On topic:
Japan is highly nationalistic, so I guess it's only natural for them to take pride in their work and to claim what's originally theirs. It's just important to keep the japanese mindset in the back of your head, when you read it.

I totally agree with you on that. And what the japanese guy said about japanese games needing to keep up is exactly what they need to do if they want to sell world wide. Sure they can have pride in their ways and their work but when it comes to money, you need to sell to everyone at some point

Well I suppose if your that greedy, but what people seem to forget is that the west is not the entire world, and while you try to appeal to them all you are doing is ****ing off the western ones that were already loyal to you along with the Japanese ones, For instance, from what I have heard is that this game,Binary Domain, is similar to Gears Of War (with some aspects of itds own) , while the west will buy Gears of War however, The Japanese counterparts are more likely to buy Binary Domain.

Another thing to take into account is that the ones who like "Western" games are currently too busy calling each other "deuchebags" on CoD to buy your game

I dont think game companies should have any loyalty to anyone, its never their intention. Sure sequels should have some kind of continuity but games like DMC, they have no intention of pleasing everybody, they just want to make a buck. Its not being greedy, its just business.
I've never heard of Binary Domain so i cannot really make an opinion on that but since you said it was a straight rip off of Gears, i think its pretty damn lazy of them. Hopefully its not exactly the same because what would be the point? To have a japanese gears of war? IF i was Epic Games i would be ****ed.
