Scary superstitions

Yeah ever since last year, I've been superstitious for games that come out in the early quarter (Jan to March), like they are the ones with the most potential and ended up being sub-par or not good in the end, not having good reviews from gamesites. Happened with Mortal Kombat (I didn't like it), Soul Calibur V, and Ninja Gaiden 3. Now I have a feeling that DmC may be one of them too. I'm scared.

I just hope it won't because I really want this game to sell well and have a sequel.

Maybe this game will break the trend?

I really want this game to sell well and have a sequel.

If Capcom wants to make another DmC, they will, regardless of sales expectations.

Well, I'm not a Mortal Kombat fan, didn't play Soul Calibur, but can personally say the Ninja Gaiden 3 was, pardon my french, absolutely horrendous. I did not like Ninja Gaiden 3 at all.
But the previews have been saying that DmC is one hell of an awesome game, with people comparing it to Bayonetta and all. I have not found one preview that said anything negative about the combat at all. In fact, the only bad thing I've heard is that the there are too many cutscenes that interrupt you from the amazing game play.
Pros: Great combat, art style, story
Cons: Some frame rate issues, camera can be wonky.
I think this will be a great game.

I totally forgot about the previews and agree with them, but you know, some old fans would be all "Oh, he's just a freaking newcomer" or "He got paid to say it's awesome", whether if it was a preview or a IGN review. That's one of the reasons why I have these superstitions because of the fans wishing the game to have bad reviews and flop.

I knew you were going to mention Soul Calibur V because I thought of it when i saw this thread.

Isn't the camera wonky in most games? I hardly see a review these days where the camera isn't a problem.

I don't think this game will sell well. Despite its western appeal I don't think ninja theory games appeal to a wide audience. Also its nearing the end of each console's life cycle. Though dmc 3 and 4 also came out in January

I thoroughly enjoyed and still am enjoying MK.

What I'm wondering is what the heck the next generation of consoles will do that our generation can't already do.

I am a huge Mortal Kombat fan and MK had massive positive response form the fanbase and generally everyone else. It is by far the best MK in the series and it has upped the series by alot. It is being taken seriously by even the competetive scene which hasn't happened since MK3. So saying MK is sub-par is plain and simply wrong, even if you didn't like it.

Soul Calibur 5 and Ninja Gaiden 3, however, were sub-par and disappointing.
The only bad things about DmC are the controversial stuff, like the game appearance, story and changes in gameplay. However, as a stand-alone game, it is by far a bad game which has been proven time and time again. DmC won't fail by being a bad game, that's not something I am worried about. Should it fail, it would only be because of the controversial issues that the DMC community keep picking at and are too stubborn to look pass.

MK9 was April 2011 and was well received. Soul Calibur V was earlier this year and also a great game that had little to no flaws. I didn't play NG3 so I dunno. I don't see the connection...(well SFxT is one of the worst games of this year and was released in February).

I disagree on both SCV and SFxT. SCV had dumbed down gameplay and lots of moves were taken away from certain characters. The Story Mode was not only bad, but also really lazily made with those singular artworks that weren't even that good. And there were no Arcade endings. SCV lacked SO MUCH offline content. It was a huge disappointment and didn't sell very well. The only positive thing about it was the introduction of Zwei who is still one of my favourite fighting game characters. Too bad he was introduced into a crappy game.

As for Street Fighter X Tekken, the only disappointing thing was the whole on-disc DLC issue. But other than that, the game is fantastic, it is fun, it had some really interesting takes on the Tekken characters and their moves, and form what I can gather, it sold really well despite the whole on-disc DLC issue.

Actually the opposite for SFxT. It sold ....OK but not what Capcom wanted. Aside from the BS disc locked content. It's filled with glitches, broken hitboxes, damage scaling, GEMS*, Pandora mode isn't needed, noob friendly, TIMEOUTS, doesn't compliment Tekken or SF fighting style, easy combos, basic combos, AUTO-COMBOS, Assist Gems(!), the worst soundtrack I've ever heard on a fighting game, the graphics weren't as good as SF4. Not only that but the game is THAT BAD that it won't be at EVO in 2013. Nobody wanted to see it at EVO 2012 because it's a bad game. A Capcom game NOT being at EVO.... that's honestly how bad it is. It's also never streamed by the big names: Any Team Sp00ky event, IPlayWinner, FGTV, Armhouse,Cross Counter don't play it, tournament turnouts for the game are minimal.
It's such a bad game and it's sad to say because it could've been good. But no-one likes it but the small few.

I didn't know it had that many flaws so it wouldn't get accepted by the competetive scene. I personally enjoyed it, and still do from time to time and I think it is really fun!

That's cool if you still like it, but you're in the minority here. It's honestly one of the biggest disappointments/flops of this generation. It's laughably bad and is constantly having the p*ss taken out of it and obviously, Not being at EVO is a huge blow for Capcom. v.2013 is supposed to fix the problems/implement new ideas I'll get it try, but I doubt it'll save this game. It could've been good.

Hopefully Tekken X Street Fighter will be better. ^^

I actually have my own "superstition" regarding Devil May Cry. To me every alternate game is good eg: DMC1 was great, DMC3 was also great and DmC (the fifth entry) looks to be awesome as well.
