BACKSTORY
The Sceptre of God is renowned for the divine power it contains – this means it can resurrect the dead, bestow immense power on the weak, and do impossible things that can verge on being overly annoying. It also has the ability to drive whomever uses it insane with power. The Sceptre was placed in the care of the Covenant to keep it safe from the greedy hands of mankind, but a rival tribe stole it and hid it for reasons unknown – maybe to spite the Covenant? I don’t think anybody really cares why.
PLOT
Dante is assigned a mission to find the stolen Sceptre, and tracks it down to the abandoned Cathedral in Fortuna. He finds it in a confession booth, but upon tampering with it, a bright flash of celestial power consumes the world and all hell breaks lose.
There are seven Hell Gates that are unlocked following the flash. Dante has to defeat the demons standing guard at each gate before he can enter into the Demon Realm. There he has to fight through armies of demons to find the talismans that will enable him to close down each Hell Gate, and get himself back out in one piece to get the job done. At the seventh gate Dante has to defeat the six souls of the demon guards he had slain before. To get to the talisman within the Seventh Hell Gate, he has to fight the ultimate boss, Legion.
Sub-plots
Vergil wants Yamato back.
Nero meets his dad (yes, it is canon, and we’ll follow that concept)
Someone takes down Mundus.
Dante chills out with some strawberry sundae.
Arkham/Jester annoys and creeps out all players.
The good guys team up and kick ass.
These are not set in stone, but you all catch the drift right? These are events that will inevitably unfold with all the characters thrown together. Use your imagination, and have fun.
