Nonetheless, Ethan actually does have his face in the game, purposefully hidden away by Capcom, who thinks he's really special or something. Some fans discovered this...

So he may be able to come back from his "death" after all.

I think there's going to be a Pet Semetary twist, where that's not actually Ethan, though, but perhaps Miranda somehow reincarnated as him. This is getting interesting.

That's spoilers. Be considerate.

Anyway...

Nonetheless, Ethan actually does have his face in the game, purposefully hidden away by Capcom...
Yeah. That was the point. His face is hidden so people can insert themselves into him, but he's still given a defined-enough personality to react to things and sass the bosses, so he's improved from RE7.

Miranda can't reincarnate as Ethan because the Megamycete she relied on to live got blown up one cutscene ago, and Rose drained her of her powers during the boss fight.

Whether that's supposed to be Ethan at the end is 50/50. The figure in the distance wasn't meant to be focused on, so they used Ethan's part-calcified model since the asset was already made and used previously. Functionally, it could be a stand-in for the sniper that "had a clear shot" on Rose only when Rose got around to the front of the SUV into the passenger's seat, as opposed to right when she pinned down the agent and threatened him. The timing and placement would suggest the sniper wasn't "behind Rose"/"within forward view of the agent" but "in the distance, able to see the front of the car". They can't exactly leave the sniper dude there in the cemetery in the middle of nowhere, and how else would he have gotten there?

Then again, Capcom is well aware people would want to use photo mode or freecam modding to check out who that person is, plus they added the model into the scene in the first place when no one needed to be at that spot, so it might genuinely be Ethan, except Rose clearly treats him as dead by visiting his grave. So if it is Ethan, it might be a hallucination of him like Eveline was for Ethan.

So, what was with that altar?

Those jars had Rosemary's body parts inside of them. She was dismembered by Miranda. How could she possibly be alive after suffering that?

Literally the Mold. Ethan is 100% Mold since he died in RE7 and reformed from having his skull caved in and retained his own consciousness through sheer force of will rather than succumbing to Eveline's control. Mia being only infected with Mold allowed her to survive otherwise fatal injuries. Whatever passes for "genetics" in both of them fused to make Rose a super Mold baby who was The Chosen One for Miranda to revive Eve's consciousness in, and Miranda turned Rose into a crystal before splitting her into the flask parts, confident that Rose would reform no matter what. Unfortunately for her, Rose inherited Ethan's resistance to villainous nonsense and the transfer didn't take.

No offense to anyone, but I think some aspects of this game are just totally silly. That we will be getting a trilogy about this guy's life is a bit, well... I don't think it's right. Considering all the major characters that Capcom has left out of the mainline games for years, this feels like quite a stretch.

I do understand that the heroes are old now, and that means the games just aren't scary with them in them anymore. But I hope people realize that Resident Evil Village is an action game anyway. Ethan is not a bad character, but concealing his face is rather stupid, considering they left his model in the game with his face anyway. Assuming that was not somebody's made up model. I think that's hidden in the game.

I think it is silly how in every movie scene, he is looking down at the ground. I don't like that.

Man, so true. They should totally hand the protagonist reins back over to

The Walking Boulder Punch/Steroid Abuse Meme
Meme Dude's Sister
The Formerly Rookie Cop that Continually Fails Upward
Newly Genericized Action Girl Who Casually Hauls A Railgun That Splits Concrete
The Villain Dude's Son Who is Perpetually Taking a Bite Out Of That Apple Forever Now, I Guess
Supergirl
The B#tch in the Red Dress
The Little Girl That Got Tim Drake'd, To Say The Least
A bunch of other side characters that only appeared in one game and never again. At least four characters in the roster can make up their own squad since they all have "experimented on as a child/young adult and now have superpowers" as a thing in common. And everyone else has plot armor.

Geez, gatekeeping from people that don't know what they're talking about is the worst, lmfao.

All models are made up by someone. They don't sprout in the game magically.

I'd rather just let Capcom keep surprising me.

I remember hearing news about RE2 around the corner after I completed RE1.
I was thinking the sequel was gonna continue the story about Chris and Jill but we are introduced to brand new characters, Leon and Claire.
And then Jill returns in RE3.

For a long time, I didn't really care if Capcom brings back old characters or introduces new ones, as long as the game is fun.

Honestly, they should do a bit of both, leaning more towards "introducing new ones". The other rarely-seen protagonists should be built up, and the world isn't so small that only like... 8 people matter in a conflict that would span the entire world and probably result in more people like the protagonists we've already seen. That's like Star Wars having nothing else except the Skywalker name to it and tying everything back to Anakin, Luke, and Leia when the entire point of "Skywalker" as a name was that it was so common that Anakin wouldn't immediately realize his kids were still alive if one of them had a surname in common with him.

IMO where RE stands now, there are too-obvious anchors in the plot. Everyone either knows Chris or they know Wesker (or Spencer), and Chris is in all the games except 4 either physically or through mentions, and that's probably the case in the CGI movies too. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve it, but you try telling your past self that this guy

was going to be Uber Protagonist material and also end up looking like this

and see if you believe that.

I'd be down for a Jake Mueller spinoff. He's the only RE protagonist I'd wanna see in a sequel.

The child soldier/mercenary from a war torn country stuff gives you a lot to work with. The Wesker is my daddy angle also helps but it's less useful now that he's dead.

Ethan would've been better off if they went full character creation like Cyberpunk 2077. Imagine an RE8 where I could team up with one of the houses against the other 3. That's replay value ;).

Capcom, you want to show us the 2006 Claire with the upcoming Netflix series. Man up, please. Show us the 2021 Claire. Stop going back too many years in the timeline. :p

Oh, but I guess she's not sexy enough in the current era. ;)

But it gets tiring seeing Capcom leap forward, then leap backwards at the same time. They're gonna have to get old. This isn't Ash Ketchum.

Well, I'm a little bit excited about RE9, as the ending to Village was better than the whole game overall.

But in other news, there's supposed to be a new game heading to the Nintendo Switch, that may be a part of the Revelations spin off titles.

It's anybody's guess as to what Capcom has in store for us at E3 next week. :)

Yeah. It would be surprising if Capcom didn't offer up future story based DLC, considering the last sequel had a fair chunk of it.

Well, two things come to mind.

Either it should be about how Chris and his men knew about Miranda, or it should be about Rosemary as a teenager. Does it really time jump that far ahead in time?

At a push, maybe it could be about Elena and the other ill-fated villagers.
