Reminds Me of Splatterhouse

For some reason, for the longest time, DmC has reminded me of something. From the aesthetic style to the way the gameplay accentuates each and every slash of your sword, it just screamed "this reminds me of some other game" for the longest time. And I've only just now realized (well, not just now, but now is when I decided to put my thoughts into words) that DmC reminds me so much of Splatterhouse.

For those of you that haven't played Splatterhouse, first off shame on you, go play it cuz it's amazing, and second, it is a romping thriller of a beat 'em up (though the controls are more hack 'n slash than beat 'em up, think God Hand) that keeps itself safely in the audacious the whole game through. It employs a cel-shaded comic book-like graphical style that while it may look simplistic, is remarkably detailed. And when I bought Splatterhouse for Christmas and played it again, and then immediately played the DmC demo afterward, I made quite the connection. The graphics, the aesthetics, even the whole "everything wants you dead" dynamic reminded me of Splatterhouse. And speaking of aesthetics, it was especially the vibrant colors of Limbo that made me think of the vibrant, comicky colors Splatterhouse uses in its locales.

The thing that reminds me the most of Splatterhouse in DmC, for sure, is the combat. If you've played both then you'll see what I mean. Each punch/slash is accentuated by the camera and the vibration, a slight shake or zoom-in each time you land a hit to really punctuate your poundings. Each game's combat reminds me so much of the other. Hell, Splatterhouse even has a berserker mode, which is basically DT.

So, I guess this tiny little editorial (would you believe this is the longest post I've made on this forum? Yeah, I'm not much of a talker) doesn't have much of a purpose except for me to say "this game reminds me of this game!"

But now I'd like to ask you guys, do you agree, or disagree? I'm guessing most of you will disagree, but I dunno, I thought this would make for a good li'l discussion.

Enough of me rambling, it's time to hear the opinions fly! ^_^

I see in the way the environments looks, the designs of the enemies and the dialogue, but that can be said a wide amount of games today. This game is closer to Alice: Madness Returns than anything...and that's not bad. With the gaming (or life in general) is today you can't really come up with your own super innovative ideas anymore that can't be compared to something else, it just comes down to how well you execute it. DmC is similar to Alice but executes the gameplay, mechanics, sound, story etc etc with a gold star.

Ah. See, I've never played Alice, so I drew the comparison between DmC and Splatterhouse instead. I thought maybe if I spoke my thoughts that I'd find other people who would agree or disagree with me, but instead I've got 100 some views and only one reply. >_>

This is precisely why I don't usually make topics. They tend to die before getting off the ground.

Maybe not on Splatterhouse as much (though there are connections) but Alice: Madness Returns is easily the most comparable game and has been compared to the most.

As for your threads, well....*pats back* there there, now.

I could see some resemblances to Splatterhouse. Mostly with the creepy atmosphere, the vibrant colors, and their distinct styles.

I always think Alice Madness returns for a few reasons. One of them being some combat things in Alice are a lot like DmC, only DmC does it better.

It's the combat that reminds me the most of Splatterhouse, but I guess according to everyone else, Alic is the more similar one. lol

Well to be honest I don't see much resemblances to either in the combat department, but definitely in the aesthetic department.
