i played it once and had a fun time. Jake and Sherry are my favorite characters now. Its a shame they didnt stick around after 6.
Jake came back in Umbrella Corps but I also wanted them to come back together before. They planned Leon and Sherry to come back in one of the scrapped builds for RE7 from what I saw which made me dislike that game more. Same as Ada being cut from REVillage which is still the only RE game that I didn't play.

It is tiresome having the mainline characters in so many games. Not saying I hate any of them, except for their newer models, which I criticised a lot. But when they're the lead protagonist in so many games, pretty much no scares surface.

However, RE9 is rumoured to supposedly be like RE1, set in an abandoned city, which I would think is going to be semi open world and very terrifying. But this has yet to be confirmed.

I do think Capcom are capable of doing scary games with a recognised hero involved, despite all the action oriented crap I detest. But they're inclined to not successfully pull this off.

I liked Re6's story but wished it had better villians. Simons and Carla were kinda meh and Ustanak was more an obstacle than character. I wished President Sletsvana of Edonia from the Damnation movie popped up. She was a cool villian and probably couldve been the new Wesker if they played their cards right.

There was also a cool fan theory that Hunk was Jake's old commanding officer that the files mentioned. The one that betrayed him and his fellow soldiers. That rematch wouldve been cool for a future appearance.

i dont mind Jake being Wesker's kid but it wouldve been better to introduce it when Wesker was still alive. Now its just a fun fact than a deeper source of characterization for him. Its why the later scene in Act 5 between Jake and Chris fell flat to me. It felt off given what was established earlier in Jake's campaign.

I don't mind Carla and Simmons for who they are. I see them as a way to explore Ada's backstory since their background goes far earlier than anything else established up to that point. Svetlana gets arrested at the end of Damnation so they wouldn't use her and Capcom seems to have a policy of not using introduced characters in the movies during the games. It's why they introduce Helena for example even though she reminds me of Angela from Degeneration. They could have made both characters the same if they wanted but they choose to make Helena a different character for their own reasons.

Jake's superior reminds me of Wesker since he betrays his team like how Wesker betrayed STARS Alpha team. I see that foreshadowing to his meeting with Chris at the end where Chris speaks the truth but Jake naturally becomes ****ed as part of his instinct. It reminds me of Dante and Lady getting into a fight during DMC3 where she becomes ****ed at Dante for thinking that he killed Arkham even though that was Vergil.

It is a good action game and has a lot of fun parts and good characters and is far better than 5, but re2 will always be the best in the series for me.

What would you rather see being announced at Summer Game Fest? RE9, or yet another remake?

RE9, totally! :D

I first played RE2 in late 1999. The reason I know is because I went to buy RE1 around the time of my 14th birthday. I think, anyway. And I credit RE2 for why I got into survival horror in the first place.

Playing SH1 for the first time in 2002 was equally as motivating. This was followed by enjoying a string of their sequels, as well as games like Obscure, Clock Tower, Dino Crisis, and more.

It felt like survival horror had declined by 2012. But then we got hits like The Evil Within and The Last of Us. Then Capcom got their act together with RE7.

Now with both Konami and Capcom pulling out all the stops, the genre is thriving again. But I do feel that in some ways, they're deviating away from the core feel of these franchises, or whatever you could label it as.

Basically, Konami is making these games, but not actually putting the characters in Silent Hill, and apparently just making up excuses about how beautiful the game called f is looking. Which I cannot necessarily dispute. But how a game looks and feels isn't really the same thing, in my opinion.

It felt like survival horror
From my experience, it has been declining since RE7 which is still given praise through unwarranted means that I can't understand. It doesn't even feel like a survival game after Ethan gets killed by Jack Baker. "Return to roots" is also a boring buzzword with no meaning behind it, it can apply to any other game. Capcom has been ruining the series since RE7 along with reimaginings which are all destroying the original storyline one way or another. They even bring back Umbrella and Wesker to achieve this extinction purpose.

I wouldn't be surprised if RE7 began life as some other game for the VR market, then Capcom decided to make it a full blown RE game. I remember some YouTubers pondering about the new direction at the time of that demo coming out for it, and assumed that it had no direct link to any past RE lore, except a crow being in the microwave and a photo with the logo for Umbrella. Which is not the case, admittedly. Chris comes back, of course.

When it comes to the remakes, I detest RE3 in particular. Nemesis ain't supposed to be able to teleport through a roof, and they did too much to ruin the great vibe of the original RE3 by butchering the whole of the story. They just wrecked too much for it to receive any excuses from the genuine fans. But leaving out the Barry ending was particularly lame, since that's the canonical outcome.
