Hope you guys like it.
Oh Brother
“Ready, Dante?”
“Ready Vergil!” The little boy replied as his brother wound the pitch. They had started playing stickball together that morning. It was just the two of them, so they just alternated between hitting a pitching. Vergil was right about to throw the ball when someone called to them.
“Hey! HEY!” a little girl was waving her arms as she ran up to them. “I want to pl-” she tripped and fell over. She got up and walked up to Dante. “PLEASE! Can I play?”
“Uh…” Dante went up to his brother. “I think we have to do it.”
“No way!” Vergil sneered. “She’s a girl. I don’t want a girl playing with us. She’ll just get in the way. You and me are to good, pal! She’ll just bring us down.”
“I know that!” Dante yelled a little to loudly. “Uh! I mean, its just that if we don’t then her sister will hurt us!”
“PSSH! I’m not scared.” Vergil waved his hand. He then pushed past Dante and went up to the girl. “You can’t play with us.” he said simply and walked back to the pitcher’s mound.
The girl stood there for a moment and stared at the two brothers blankly. All of a sudden tears started to well up before they flowed in full force. “WAAAHHH!!! I’m gonna tell Big Sis on you! You’ll be sorry!” she ran away covering her face with her hands.
“Oh brother!” Dante threw his hands in the air. “Look what you did. Now her sister’s gonna come by and kill us!”
“Let her come. I can take her!” Vergil folded his arm across his chest and posed.
“I don’t know Vergil. Claire’s the toughest kid on the block! Whenever someone messes with her sister she kills them!”
“Yeah right.” Vergil sighed. He put his glove back on and tossed the ball into the air. “Ready?”
Dante looked around nervously before nodding. He picked up the stick they were using as a bat and readied it. “Ok.”
Vergil wound the ball. He threw it and Dante swung. He hit the ball and it flew right into the hand of-
“SO!” Claire said as she waltzed up to them. “You’re the ones! You made my little sister Serah cry! That’s not okay with me.” she shook her head.
Vergil planted his hands on his hips. “So? What are you going to do about it?”
“Here!” Claire tossed him back the ball and reached into her pocket. She took out a quarter and held it up to them. “See this?”
“WOW!” Dante and Vergil said at the same time. “How’d you get that?!” Dante asked in awe.
“The tooth fairy gave it to me! See?” She smiled and pointed to her missing tooth.
“WOW!” Dante’s mouth hung open. “You got a whole QUARTER? That’s amazing!”
“Yeah!” Claire said proudly. “Now I’m gonna flip it. Heads, I walk away. Tails, I kill you. Okay?”
“Okay.” Vergil smirked. Dante didn’t share his confidence.
Claire flipped the coin into the air and caught it. She looked at it and smirked. “Tails.” she held the coin up so they could see. Dante started whimpering as she walked up to them. When she was a few inches from Vergil she stopped.
“Well?” Vergil asked.
Claire grinned and swung her fist. She hit him right in the jaw. He flew back and landed on Dante. They laid on the ground and stared up at Claire as she loomed over them. “Don’t. Mess. With. My. Sister.” she pointed at them. The two boys nodded and scrambled up. They ran away as fast as they could.
----
Dante and Lightning were sitting on the couch watching old home movies. Dante groaned and put his head in his hands. “Why this one? Of all the videos you could have picked you picked this one. Why?”
“I like it.” Lightning shrugged.
Dante sighed and ran his hand threw his hair. He stopped short and looked at Lightning. He pulled a bow out of his hair and stared at it. “This…this has been in my hair the whole time? Ever since Ebony’s tea party?”
“Right.”
“You…why didn’t you tell me?!”
“I thought it was a good look for you.” Lightning shrugged and stood up. She grabbed the empty bowl of popcorn in the middle of the coffee table and went into the kitchen to make more.
It was a rainy day outside, so the two of them thought it would be fun to stay in and watch movies from when they were kids. Dante wasn’t expecting her to pick an embarrassing one. He then got an idea. He dug through the piles of videos and pulled one out. “I’m putting a new one in.” he called into the kitchen.
Lightning came back in a few minutes later. Dante hit play and forced down a smile as it started.
----
“AHHH!” Claire cried and hid under a blanket on the couch. That one was really bright. “Make it stop, Mommy! I’m scared.”
“Oh, honey! Its only lightning.”
Another lightning bolt cracked outside and Claire screamed. Her mother cradled the small girl in her arms as she cried.
----
Dante stole a glance at Lightning and saw she wasn’t amused. “Oh come on!” he laughed. “We’re even now.”
“Huh. I forgot about that.”
“What?”
Lightning pushed him playfully. “Jerk.”
“Hey!” Dante then had another idea. He took a coin out of his pocket. “Heads, I’ll clean up, tails and you do it?”
“Deal.”
Dante tossed the coin up. He caught it and opened his hand. Tails. He smirked at Lightning. She didn’t look at him. Instead she stepped on his foot hard. “AH!” he cried and dropped the coin. “What’d you do that for?”
“Oh look.” she nodded to the ground. “Its heads.” she smiled and got up. “Thanks, Dante.”
