I'm not as good as Chaos Raiden, but I thought that I'd give it a go. No pics though, I struggle with adding pics to posts.

The title is spot on, it is Playstation, the characters are All-Stars and it is certainly a Battle Royale. However, it is far from being anything like Super Smash Bros.
There is no real main story behind the game as each character has their own stories and motives. Although Raiden does say that fighters are being gathered for an unknown reason by an unknown force. Although, let’s face it, this game is where you can see Kratos fight Sackboy.
Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale has a very good character roster although by looking at some comments on the net, gamers feel that there could’ve been other characters added.
The roster is:
Dante (DmC: Devil May Cry), Nathan Drake (Uncharted), Raiden (Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance), Cole MacGrath and Evil Cole MacGrath (Infamous), Sir Daniel Fortesque (MediEvil), Spike (Ape Escape), Heihachi Mishima (Tekken), Sackboy (Little Big Planet), Jak & Daxter (Jak & Daxter), Ratchet & Clank (Ratchet & Clank), Toro Inoue (Together Everywhere!), PaRappa (PaRappa the Rapper), Fat Princess (Fat Princess), Sly Cooper (Sly Cooper), Nariko (Heavenly Sword), Kratos (God of War), Big Daddy (BioShock), Colonel Radec (Killzone) and Sweet Tooth (Twisted Metal ).
Fighting and pulling moves off in the game is rather simple. Attacks are mapped to triangle (long range attack), square (close range attack), and circle.
The aim of the fight is to ‘charge’ your character’s ‘super’ meter three levels in order to pull off a ‘super’ attack. If you do this and hit all enemies on screen will grab you a victory and win the fight. If you can’t and time runs out under certain conditions you will be given ‘overtime’. However, if an opponent charges their super meter to level three and hits all characters including yours, well, you’ve guessed it, you lose.
There are also items that can help you win your fights (if you choose to use them), Razor Claws (Ratchet and Clank), Hedgehog Grenade (Resistance), Gravity Shield (Wipeout) and more.
Along with items from other Playstation games, there are also levels. ‘Dreamscape’ which is a combination of Little Big Planet and Buzz! ‘Stowaways’ based on Uncharted 3 and BioShock Infinite and plenty more.
Levels also have ‘hazards’. So not only having other fighters to content with, you’ll also be pushed into grinders, electrocuted, or nearly eaten by a giant three headed water-snake.
By defeating enemies and winning battles, you go up in rank. By going up in rank you can unlock items. Ranks can go up and beyond 200 (I’ve noticed an icon of Dante’s that can only be unlocked when he reaches 200). There are extra costumes, taunts, character intros and outros (basically things your character says before and after battle), icons (for your own ‘battle card’), character music and perhaps my most favourite thing, Minions.
Minions appear at the start of battles, when you use the super meter at level three and when the battle is over. DmC’s Dante’s minion is Kat (also from the new game), and Uncharted’s Nathan Drake has Sully as his minion. They don’t say anything, but they are supposed to cheer on the character. Minions aren’t assigned to characters, so when you’re fighting as Drake or Sweet Tooth you can still use Kat (or any other minion that you want to use).
When you’ve beaten all of the random character battles, you will then face whatever character is your rival. So, if you’ve been fighting as Dante, his rival will be Nariko. Or if you play as Nathan Drake, his rival will be Sly Cooper (as they are both Treasure Hunters.)
The final battle is against ‘Polygon Man’.
‘Polygon Man’ was the unused mascot for the release of the PS1 in America.
If you get bored with Arcade mode, there is a Single Player Challenge mode where you have to complete certain ‘objectives’.
There is a ‘Multiplayer’ mode which includes matches that have to be won in a certain time (most kills in a certain amount of time), Kill-limit (first one to reach a certain number of kills), and last one standing.
There is also a Network pass to access online features. However, if you bought the game pre-owned and want to access the online features, don’t panic, you can buy the pass from PSN.
The graphics are good and there is always something going on in the backgrounds of the levels while you are fighting, although from time to time, this may not be a good thing as sometimes there can be too much going on and will distract you from your battle.
The camera can also pan out too far which will leave you searching for your character.
The soundtrack is good although it doesn’t stand out as one of the all time greats of gaming.
DLC is planned for the game for release in early 2013. It will see two new characters added to the roster Kat (Gravity Rush) and Emmett Graves (Starhawk). They will be free for the first two weeks when they are released. Other DLC characters are planned and will have their own stories, trials, unlockables (costumes etc).
There is also a new stage confirmed as DLC. ‘Fearless’ is a mixed version of Heavenly Sword and Wipeout stages. The stage will be in the same DLC package as the Kat and Emmett.
PRO’S:
-Good selection of characters
-Great level details
CON’S
- At times, too much going on in the background which will leave you distracted.
- Camera is awkward and pans out too far leaving you looking for your character.
Yes, Sony wanted to emulate something like Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. And for a while, it looked like it would, but it fell short.
VeeBee15’s Score: 6.5/10
REMEMBER: this is my opinion, play the game yourself and make up your own mind...
