I'm not trying to bash the new DMC here, I have been having a blast with it in spite of a few minor annoyances, but I've noticed something which is a bit off putting as I unlock harder difficulty modes.
For every boss I've noticed that it's very easy to simply wale on their constantly exposed weak spot, this isn't really all that different from the other games in the series, In 3 certain weapon types would do more damage to certain bosses with a visual effect to match ((Hit Nevan with Cerberus for example, and she became engulfed in ice)) and in 4 all of the bosses had special weak points that would open up after you attacked them in a certain manner enough times.
But they still feel just a tad bit weak considering you either.
A. can completely ignore their weak spot because you damage them just fine anyways.
or
B. The only way to damage them is to attack a weak spot, otherwise they deflect or are outright unfazed by your attacks, and the weak spot is something only they expose.
You can't tactically manipulate them, you either wait for them to be done attacking so you can attack, or you just wail on them while dodging a few half assed swipes.
It honestly made the boss battles feel a little underwhelming. I had more difficulty fighting Drekavac than I did with Mundus, and he was just a minor variant on the dreamrunners. I don't think he counts as a boss though if he does it's a much welcomed change of pace.
Overall though, it's a matter of following a simple pattern of dodging well telegraphed attacks and wailing on them when they're open with your most damaging moves. Which could arguably be said about every boss in the hack and slash genre. But it feels especially note worthy here for some reason.
Any one else have any thoughts on this?
