Because sadly, if there was a thred dedicated to random chatting, I can tell you now that it'd inevitably descend into either mindless spamming, trolling, arguments or...Hell, all three.

Even though it may start off nice, every thread I've ever seen that doesn't have an identifiable topic always seems to end with a lock, infractions handed out and general bad feelings all around.
