Dante and Kat were at the top of Silver Sacks Tower where Mundus' office was. It was one of the few areas of the city that somehow remained untouched. The sleek look of the office certainly portrayed Mundus' desire of order but it was filled with portraits of himself and different forms of appraisal such as trophies and rewards. Truly, he was an egotist. The most disturbing thing was the odd looking stain on his desk. Dante sniffed it and recognized the scent instantly. The image that came as a result was something he desired to never see again. Kat looked inside one of the drawers and found some documents that looked strangely ancient and the letters kept phasing between English and some odd language. Kat theorized that the letters' flashing maybe due to Limbo's union with the Human world. She was about to make a magic mark on the desk but Dante said it would be best if the desk was washed first. Instead, she made it on the floor and placed the paper on it. The letters stopped flashing and they were able to read it.
Kat looked at the rest of the documents and found more information.
Dante objected. His job was to protect humankind and this would only distract him from that. He already learned what he needed from Vergil. Kat told him that he can't protect anyone at this point if he doesn't learn how to control Limbo like the Demons and that he barely knows anything about his angel powers. Utilizing both could be the key to saving mankind. Dante couldn't argue back- women are always right after all.
Kat took a look at the other documents and read them using her magic. While the story of Lucia was constant, each paper had a different version of how the war started except one. Kat called that particular piece to Dante's attention.
Before I reigned, there was Lucia the Creator. She was a nephilim or, rather, the singular nephilim. She was able to create Limbo, Purgatory, Hell, Heaven, and Earth along with the three races. At first everything was at peace and the three races worked well together but a war broke out between the Angels and the Humans. The problem was that the Humans were given the Spirit of Lucia as a gift while the Angels were given her Mind. The Angels didn't like the exchange so they tried to trade with the Humans. The Humans refused so a war broke out. The Humans came to us, the Demons, for aid as we had Lucia's Body. The Humans said they would allow us to consume their souls, each containing a piece of Lucia's Spirit, in exchange for protection. The Demons agreed and our alliance with the Humans had lasted ever since.
Dante and Kat had, at first, casted doubt on what this account implied. Basically, that not only were the Angels and Demons were at war but so were the Humans and that it was original between the Angels and Humans. What's worse is that Demons and Humans were working together this entire time. However, neither of them were surprised. In fact, a lot of it made sense considering how much control Mundus had over the world and the Angels lack of participation in the city's liberation. The problem is that the alliance between the Demons and Humans was now broken because of the revolution. Does this mean that the Angels will come and take the place of the Demons?
Kat looked at the rest of the documents and found more information.
During the split of the great Lucia, the three races were given three gifts. To the Humans was given her Spirit, the demons were given her Body, but we angels were given her Mind. Each gift symbolizes some aspect of her personality: "Spirit" refers to her free will, "Mind" refers to her pure and just intentions, while "Body" represents her more lustful and destructive tendencies. As Angels, with the gift of the Mind, we were tasked to counteract the Demons who were violent and constantly desired to conquer. Thus our war began and raged for eons with Humans stuck in between. They, the Humans, were a great resource for both of us. Their souls, when consumed, gave the Angels and Demons the ability to control the realms and morph them to our will.
Now there was a problem. Two of the documents described two different versions of the start of the Angel- Demon war. However, one was written by a demon and the other by an angel. So, obviously, these stories were written with bias, right? Dante suggested that they leave the documents alone so they don't contain anything important but Kat pulled out a third. At that moment, her magic ran out and the letters of the other documents began flashing again except the one in her hand. It was written in English. Dante asked her to read it.
My name is Judeus, I am the oldest living human on Earth. I was there in the beginning when the war first broke out. After Lucia's gifts were given to their respective race, the Angels and Demons started to change. At first, neither of them had any intention of mating with anyone outside their race yet, suddenly, after the gifts were given, they started sleeping with each other and the Humans. Soon, Nephilim, hybrids of the races, began popping up. Even though some of us from each of the races celebrated the births of these special children, the majority of the Demons despised them. They saw them as impure and made movements to kill the children. One by one, innocent children would die at a young age by the hands of the Demons. The Angels, enraged, fought back against them and the war had waged ever since.
Now, here is a third account that was written by a human. Is this one right? Again, Dante felt like nothing important was given and that it only made things more confusing. Kat disagreed. She pointed out to him that they had learned about Lucia, the creator of the universe and it sheds some light on the source of her powers which comes from Lucia's "spirit". If they did more research, they can find out more and maybe both her and Dante could learn how to master their powers.
Vergil's research, conclusion. Now that I am done with my research, I can conclude that the neither the Angels nor the Demons were the cause of the war. Rather it was their ancestors, the very Angel and Demon. Lucia gave birth to three pairs of children, boys and girls, one for each race. After they grew up, she gave them special abilities that would be their trademark techniques future generations would practice. However, jealousy rose amongst them and they began fighting to see who was stronger. The Humans lost to the Demons and fell under their control.
Dante exclaimed how right he was but Kat was a little suspicious. What was a document from Vergil doing in Mundus' lair? Dante told her that thinking about it would have to wait. He could feel a presence climbing up the tower, a really dark presence. Kat suggested they run and Dante took her advice as he broke a portion of the window to make an exit. Kat was scared because of the height but she swallowed it and held tight onto Dante as they jumped off.
