Enslaved 2 will not happen says Ninja Theory
UK studio Ninja Theory has admitted that there are no plans for a sequel to Enslaved: Odyssey To The West, as the developer is forced to concentrate all its efforts on DmC Devil May Cry.
‘Enslaved should have done better,’ said studio founder Tameem Antoniades in a new Edge interview. ‘Right now we should have been doing a sequel and perfecting that sequel and doing what franchises do, which is get better over time.’
‘[But] because that didn't happen we've not expanded to two teams like we intended to. So we've remained a smaller shop. But now we get another chance with DmC.’
A classic victim of the Christmas rush, Enslaved was released last October to relatively positive critical acclaim but had sold less than 500,000 copies by the end of November – far less than publisher Namco Bandai’s target of 1 million.
The third person actioner featured Lord of the Rings and Rise of the Planet of the Apes mocap star Andy Serkis and a script by The Beach writer (and noted game fan) Alex Garland. Neither of these factors helped it in the end though and these latest comments seem to suggest the franchise is now dead.
Antoniades describes the Devil May Cry reboot as ‘another chance’ for the developer, whose other most notable game is PlayStation 3 exclusive Heavenly Sword.
Although it’s not entirely their fault, given that Capcom has egged them on in terms of completely redesigning the game and lead character, but DmC has already been the victim of considerable fan complaint. Although it was looking okay at its most recent outing at the Tokyo Game Show
