I finished DmC this afternoon and currently finishing Vergils Downfall.
I personally like how the story went, from explaining how Dante's life was, to how he became how he is "now". He was a rebel, but learned how it is he should become.
Ive heard a lot of trash about how this Dante is portrayed. So he doesnt have white hair and a (full) red jacket? Is that truly an issue? In my opinion, how he looked is a minor feature, because the point of the story is to see how he developed into the demon hunter we know. And his banter, along with the rest of the game, was a tad off, but again, you could tell he was changing inside. And, if you were an 18yea old, half demon being dragged into hell over and over again, I can almost bet you wouldnt have the holiest language either.
Something I had sort of mixed feelings about was the Devil Trigger. Of course, I loved seeing the original Dante and having the boost, but there could have been something more. If I recall correctly, Dante's DT was different per weapon, right? Now, I clearly know that, because he does not have full control yet, that it really wouldn't have a great effect, but somethimg would have been cool.
Another thing that seemed off were the weapons. Again, I love what they did with Angel and Demon weapons, but I feel a change is in order. I did NOT like the fact that, except for the guns, every weapon you obtain is a changed form of Rebellion. What happened to finding weapons? And am I the only one expecting more weapons? That part seemed a little short. Now, I cannot tell you what I would ask for, but I would just like to have seen more.
The one thing I LOVED was the quick use of weapons. Rebellion, Arbiter, Osiris, Eryx, then back to Arbiter. Amazing mechanics in that part, and I hope they keep it in the future.
Something not so loved is the last two boss fights. Mundus seemed too easy, and how to finish Vergil took forever to figure out. I can only hope Ninja Theory learns from it if there is a sequel.
The last two things I wish to mention are about the connections to other games. The blue rose, shown being held by Eva, is also the name of Nero's double-barreled revolver. Does this mean Nero will appear if there is a sequel? Or is it just a connection to him? Also, and this sounds like a dumb question, but what is the connection between Nero and Dante?
The last is that of Vergil. How he wanted to rule, the deceitful way he got Kat and Dante to do his work. The battle. The DLC. All shows how Vergil came to be how we know him as.
And I lied, there is two more things, then I promise I'm done. Just a question and my synopsis. What ends up happening to Kat? Where does her story go? Do they ever meet again? I hope she plays an important roll again.
As for DmC Devil May Cry, I'd give it a solid 8/10. Good story, coming of age for two important characters, while drawing together this game to the others. Although I didnt like how they were done, weapons were awesome to use together in combat. If there is a sequel to this, I hope they continue the theme of him "growing up". Sort of like 4 with Nero, with him realising he is more then some kid with a jacked up arm. Also hope they do better with some boss battles, but all in all, very awesome game.
Happy Hunting!
