My Review of DmC.

Dusk Stalker

" Everybody gets a bullet!" -Axton
Yes I know their are alot of people saying that the demo was picture perfect, but I was in the grey area before I played the demo, but this is from a grey standpoint , If I have insulted anyone in any thread, I am sorry for anything I said. But for this is my review.

When I got the Demo, I gave it the benefit of the doubt and gave it try and reserved my judgement. After 20 minutes of playing the game I just put it down and deleted it.

Gameplay: Honestly its more like GoW then DmC, they sacrificed lock on for two dodge buttons which kills the mood on rounding up who you want to attack. I didn't see the fluid combat people praised, all I can see was the chunkiness in Osiris's Prop and Rake attacks. Rebellion was smooth to a point until you used its second combo where on its third attack on the second revolution it showed it's chunkiness. Arbiter was alright it showed its colors in its purpose and what it was suppose to do. Difficulty wise it was easy for me, I didn't get any damage on me nor did I die on Neph mode and SoS mode, it just got boring and boring till I went through it on the 3rd run where its just felt cookie cutter grapple them out of the group and waste them from their and rinse and repeat. No balance required which I thought would be a key in here.

Sound: Kat's voice made me want to jam an icepick in my head, Dante's voice wasn't as bad that it made me want to jam an icepick in my head rather then mute it. Music wise it killed the mode with TOO MANY WUBS. The Demon fodder noises on the other hand was excellent.

Graphics: It was beautiful, they put time and effort into it and it showed the dedication, but the liquid could have been worked on a little bit in Secret Ingredient.

Overall: 6-6.5/10, I just couldn't see DMC in it like people keep saying that it is. Their is no flow and the over exaggeration and the " OMG this game is awesome, Haterz can go die." just killed the mood even more. From what I am seeing in Facebook on the DmC page and other comments and all I kept seeing was " It wasn't the full game that we were quick to judge." instead of the usual " You haven't play the game you don't know it yet." So far I see hypocratic remarks raiding the page judging those in the grey area and telling them that their opinons weren't fair for the game at all

But anyway I kept my promise and gave my judgement from a grey area standpoint. I am sorry for any remarks I made on any posts , don't let me stop you from enjoying the game, I hope you do enjoy it:)

Good to know you have justified reasons for disliking it I hope they continue both series so you can enjoy the old series while I can enjoy the new :) I honestly don't understand why you say it feels like god of war or that it feels clunky personally. Might just be a personal taste or your more accustomed to 60 frames though Thanks for giving it a chance though!

Out of curiosity how does Vergil's gameplay look to you? I understad u haven;t played it but I've been told it looks way better then Dante's gameplay so I wanted to ask.

A little bit smoother, but the first move set you could see the skip in the launch, teleport and dimension slash and his dopplegangers (Or After images I like to call them) chunked a bit to.

As for the clunky thing, I see the animation. (I am training to be an animator) but in Osiris and I could guesstimate the keyframes in the action, but between keyframes 15-18 it shows the quality barely when its past 0.5-0.6 second, Rake shows the same thing when it shows Dante in midaction when he launches upwards with Rake. Rebellion skips on its third attack on its second combo during the first and second revolution. I am accustomed to lower then 30 fps because I worked in 24 before and 48 fps.

As for the God of War comment, just in my opinion its trying or is mirroring it to its exact specifics.

But hey hope you enjoy the game though.

Eh. Better then most brutally honest reviews.

Still I really don't see this "clunkiness" you speak of.:/

You seem to have some valid points but I'd like to know how you're playing the game. If all you do is grapple and smack then you're not fully utilizing the combo system. Here's a combo for example.

Rebellion combo A/B> cancel into hightime>Inverse Rain storm>Air flush>Demon Grapple>Helm breaker cancel>Arbiter Drop>E&I(reposition)>Overdrive>E&I(reposition)>Ground flush(relaunches enemy)>Timed stinger>Trillion stab.

Maybe your concept of 'flow' is different than most of us but from what I've seen, combos in the game flow just fine.

That was acutally on the second try, 1 combo I ran with was Drive, Demon Grab, Prop, Rebellion Aerial Rave, E and I, Jump Cancel Helm Breaker, Roulette spin, Osiris Air Combo, Rainstorm, and Finished with Arbiter.

That's just one combo, I have four more where that came from.

Well you have opinion, but each to his own huh? Hope you enjoy the game though.

If it was up to me, everyone would like the game and we would all have fun playing it! But that's just me being overly optimistic and unrealistic. XD
But anyways, thanks, I hope I will too. ^^

I played with Osiris alot, on the third try I decided to see what was up, and it all started with Rebellion combo 2, right at the third attack they cluttered and skipped a bit in the Revelations. I did it over and over again to see if it was just me, but it skips. Same with Osiris it froze up a bit halfway at 0.5-0.6 seconds.

But thats just what I saw, I couldn't feel the flow on the first and third try through this game they were talking about and what others were saying. I even tripled check and I can see it halting still on Osiris, same thing with Rebellion, but Arbiter was fine it handled like it was suppose to.

Yep.

If you can perform combos, why are saying that the combat is repetitve with that cookie cutter statement?

The combat is quite repetitive though... but I think that this is because we are playing the same level over and over (against the same enemies) and only have three weapons. It might be the demo's fault, something that might change when the actual game comes out.

The reason why I like playing SoS now is because you have more enemy variety and it actually forces me to come up with different gameplay styles that reduces the repetitiveness.

All in all, I don't think DmC is up there with DMC3 or 4 when it comes to combat. But it beats said games on every other aspect...

You did 3 runs in 20 minutes? THat's quite impressive.

Reasing your review I do get the feeling that you didn't just play, dumped the controller, and called out 'GARBAGE.' I do, see your point on alot of this and I do have many a'complains of my own in different places, which I won't give since I'm sure no one cares about my review when there are 2, 3 dozen of them here, but I do feel that only playing it for a few won't give you the full experience. I won't tell you to do it again, you gave it your attention and you say no and that is your privalage, I just think that a longer trial would've been more fair.

If you can perform combos, why are saying that the combat is repetitve with that cookie cutter statement?

Strategy wise it can be, combo wise it isn't, like I said grapple and pulling the mob to you away is cookie cutter almost in my opinion because their is a balance required within those terms, over relying on the grapple is a biggie that is almost required for you to do, I am not saying it is one hundred percent, but it just feels like it does to much.

I did all of that except call it garbage, a year ago or around 2010 I would have, but not now in time I just crawled to a grey area I just shrugged my shoulders.

Actually, I would like to see your opinion on it. I think you've got a level head and I like that. I cannot see it for myself at the moment as my console is screwing up and unable to log in, if it is even out here yet in my country.

Whata downer...

Actually I would like to see your opinion on it. I think you've got a level head and I like that.
I appretiate that but I'm not really sure my opinion on the subject will really be that interesting. We are gatting to the point that everyone and their grandmother want to write a review and one more is just going to get lost in the pile.

Then I suggest not relying on it too much. Anyway, it's your opinion and whatnot but I still must say that this is only a demo. If you have friend who plans on buying it, I suggest that you borrow it from him. I'm not saying your opinion is wrong or anything but from my experience, demos NEVER showcase the full potential of a game. There are still more enemy types and weapons. I know I'm sounding a little bit pushy but I just don't agree with people reviewing a game based on demos regardless of whether or not they like it.

See while I wish you luck in your animation field. "but between keyframes 15-18 it shows the quality barely when its past 0.5-0.6 second" is looking into it WAY deeper then I ever would care to which explains why we fundamentally feel teh game is faster or slower. Btw why is it that Arbiter handles well? Just because its slower?
