Mundus defeated too soon?

Loopy

Devil hunter in training
Considering DmC is about Dante's origins, do you think they should have used a villain like Arkham first, and then had Dante go after Mundus when he is older and has better control of his powers? Defeating Mundus seems like something Dante should do as the pinnacle of his demon hunting career, not something done when he is just learning about what he is.
It also seems like a waste of a villain considering Mundus is built up to be the biggest danger to Dante, so every main villain after Mundus would seem underwhelming because they're not an all-powerful demon king with control over the world both financially and physically.

they could bring mundus back im sure and make him 110x what he used to be and even make it so that dante gets cocky about fighting him rushes in gets made a fool off and gets his ass kicked and then have him grow up and mature because of the experience and have him grow into the devil hunter hes meant to be and come back and beat and seal mundus away

There are other demon kings :p

That's something I'm working on with Stairway to Heaven, how aside from Dante's personal struggles, in the demon world there's this power vacuum because of Mundus' defeat. Also, just from my "headcanon" as I guess it would be (or fictional canon?) Mundus was a demon king and became ruler over the world, and he was only powerful because he a) found the Hell Gate which gave him immortality and more power, and b) he had Sparda kicking demon ass for him back during his rise to the throne.

Ultimately, with DmC I think the idea was less that Mundus was the ultra bad, and instead Vergil becoming a power hungry villain was. From a very basic sense of drama, one's own family is usually a greater antagonist than someone who murdered that family. If done properly, of course.

Another sad thing was that Mundie was never able to show off his full power and fight Dante on an epic scale like in the old series. So we'll never know how powerful he truly is and a rather missed opportunity to create a truly memorable battle for Dante and getting his sweet sweet justice/revenge.

Also, Mundus ruled for about 9000 years if there was a demon king as strong as he it would've been obvious by now and with the Hell Gates (the demon's apparent source of power and nutrient) won't they just get weaker.

Unless if they create a drug/steroid that boosts their power 100x fold it will be hard in the story context to create a villain that is more powerful and menacing than Mundus unless you use the guy who was before Mundus.

You know who would've made a powerful and menacing next villain to Mundus.....his kid but we all know what happened to him.

I'm sorry but that was too hilarious (because the song really fits the situation) and that was the only video that just contained the scene.

But in all seriousness Mundus's kid could've been a great next villain. Shame he was nothing more than a plot device.

It seems that Vergil will be the next and possibly final villain.

Or the next villains could be angels but then they'll have to ditch the "Devil" part in Devil May Cry and Bayonetta fans will be p*ssing on them for stealing Bayonetta's stick.

Well, there's only the one Hell Gate in DmC, and it's one of the greatest reasons why he's in charge. Sparda was one of the other demon kings, but he sided with Mundus, and I guess the others were just...I dunno...reluctantly following him.

And a really icky boss fight *shudder*

Well you would have to give a reason for Mundus being out of Dante's reach so if you had him more like Darkseid/thanos from Marvel/DC comics where they are the man behind the man and also on a different level of existence then it would have worked.

you could have another guy be the target of Dante's revenge while Mundus left him and sparda in charge of Earth while he attended to other matters.
