Get at least an s rank in each skirmish , and make sure to take no damage for the bonus of that , also build up your rank before you shatter urizens crystal

Also in general - avoid small fights that won't net you large score. If there's a skirmish with only 3 small enemies, no way they'll be able to net you enough, and this includes the tentacles that come out of the ground. Better to just run past them.
No idea how the rank is calculated, but I've been hearing it's some sort of average. It will actively hurt you to get poor score on these small engagements.
