Meg's Lent Journal

Okay, so it's Lent again and that means I'm giving something up. This year it's junk food. I thought it would be fun to keep a journal of sorts following my adventure of giving up something I loooooooove. Here goes!

2/22/2012- Ash Wednesday

Day 1

I find it ironic that today is the 22nd since 22 is my lucky number. Really hope that's good luck and not a cheeky joke from Mother Nature.

Well, the day went well so far. I kinda forgot it was Ash Wednesday and so had a snack after lunch. Whoops! But now I remember and I didn't eat meat during dinner. No dessert either. I'm off to a good start.

I did have to run very quickly past the snacks on my way out of the dining hall because I was craving some candy.

I gave up sweets a few years ago. This time I'm going for no junk food at all. I think I can do it.

This is going to be a long Lent....

Οh, I was wondering as well. I don't know if I should totally love my mother because she used to take away things that I love from me so frequently that I now am immune to it, or not. I'll love her anyway.

Good luck with it Meg!

Jolly good luck, Meg! We're giving up junk food in the Powell household, too. It is a mightily tricky task, though, given the fact that we know that there's a tasty bit of chocolate hiding itself away in our kitchen... unbeknownst to the kids...

Meh Lent was one of the main reasons I became agnostic , how could a leader so loving be as cruel as to keep me from playing ocarina of time for a week (or however long Lent is) when i was in the final dungeon ! made me angry.

I've never done Lent before, as it's not something you "have" to do in Christianity, but I thought I'd have a go this year if anything to try and cut back on the amount of crap we all eat. Was going to do the Tearfund Carbon Fast but then realised I don't own a car, don't go out to work, don't travel by plane and already use Fairtrade products so there's not much left on their list I can realistically do.

Of course, I could just say that with all that in mind I have therefore finished Lent 39 days early but I think that might be classed as cheating?

Day 2

Meghan is going nuts. She does not know what to do. It is almost dinner time. Oh no. She has been painfully avoiding junk food all day and is very sad. She has major craving for something sweet. Meghan thinks she is doomed to go crazy by the time Easter comes. Maybe she should do nothing? Meghan thinks she should lock herself in her room for Lent. But then Meghan will miss class and friends. Plus, Meghan would always be with roommate. Meghan hates roommate. Meghan is going to suck it up and go to dinner. She hopes there is bread. Yummy white bread. Will update after dinner.

EDIT:

VICTORY! There was bread. Yummy bread. Meghan is happy. Annnnd there was fruit! Meghan will be lose tomorrow. And she ate turkey with bruschetta. Meghan will be very lose tomorrow.

Day 5

I am overjoyed. Today is Sunday and so a cheat day. Oh, that is totally a thing. *ahem* Well, either way I had some ice cream, chocolate covered almonds, and an epppppic pretzel. Oh yes. Don't worry, it was (sorta) spread out. Anyway, I am haaaaaappy! And feel ready to go for another week of no junk food. BRING IT ON!

Day I Lost Count

Well today was a cheat day (Sunday) so I had fun with that. The week was difficult though. Not eating junk food on a college campus is hard! :( Everywhere I go I see junk food. It's terrible. :'( Meghan is sad. Meghan does not know how she will survive until Easter.

I've been trying to eat more fruit as a natural source of sugar to replace junk food. Problem is I was already getting enough fruit....so....yeah I had an epic stomach ache the other day. No fun. :(

And to think we are nowhere near the end of Lent. How am I going to live?! I ate a third of all the Ritz crackers in one sitting yesterday. And now I just remember I have a box of Ritz crackers. Oh ScheiBe...

Hey Meg, since you're trying to go off junk food, why don't you try sweet things that aren't considered junk food, like you can still eat certain candy and what not, but it's not considered junk food because its totally good for you!

I'll have to find some though, it helped me lose weight!! :w00t:

AIN'T THAT CALLED CHEATING?
Eating fruit is cheating? :p

Day Yesterday

Um.....I cheated. I had a piece of banana upside-down cake. I was good but I feelz bad. Even worse is that later that day I had a doughnut and a cookie. I figured at that point I shouldn't kid myself. I figure I just won't have a cheat day Sunday. Buuuuut......yeah I probably will anyway. Darn it. :'(

I used to do that every Lent. >_> Specially since we only gave up meat and there always seemed to be lots of meat-tastic pizza at school, etc. during Lent. =( *hugs*
