Meg's Guide to Drawing! ^^

Hey everybody, I thought it might be fun to write up a step by step guide to drawing. ^^' I'll be drawing Nero and posting step by step pics with explanations on what I'm doing and how to do it. Now note, I'm not a pro, so these tips are just that; tips. Just because you don't do what I do doesn't mean you are doing it wrong. This is just what works for me and my hope is that it will work for someone else to. So! Let's get started!

First up, here's an example of one of my recently finished works;

Please note that I have to take pics of all my drawings, so the quality isn't as strong as if I scanned them. ^^'

EDIT:

Materials-

Paper- I use a fancy sketch book, but even just printer paper will do.
Colored Pencils- Prismacolor is the best. Really high quality. They are a little pricey though, but don't worry if you can't get your hands on them. I've a 12 pack and bought some other colors down the line. (Note: Primarily varying shades of pink; Lightning's hair is a pain!)
HB Pencil- Regular No. 2 pencil if you don't have one.
Pencil Sharpener
Easer- I use a fancy art easer, but anyone will do.
Best Buy Employee Folder- Whoops! How'd that get in the pic? ^^'

Lovely pic Meg. I love the colour texture of his coat. I like using Prismacolor's too. I look forward to seeing more of your stuff. :D

Good drawing Meg. ^_^ The nose is a little big and lips a little to red but other than that it's a fine picture. I agree with Ebony about the how you drew the coat, it is good. Plus you did his eye brows! (I shamefully noticed that because of your other thread talking about Nero and Dante's eye brows...) Thank you Meg....... LOL!

The size of the nose looks that way because I had to take a pic of it, so the angle makes it look bigger than it actually is. :)

Verrrrrry nice Meg ^_^
I tend to stick to my 2B and 6B pencils. The only colour I use is aquarelle, and then it's more for abstract drawing than still life portraits. I ish not so goods with colour >_<

That's one heck of a camera lol. I guess it's true what they say Cameras make us look bigger than we actually are and in Dante's case that is what happened. LOL

Step 1: Outline

Photoon2011-06-04at2105-1.jpg

I like to start with the hair. Just do a basic outline of the thing you are drawing. Don't get caught up in the details though! If something doesn't look perfect, ignore it for now and come back to it later. Be sure to use short wispy strokes of the pencil, especially for the hair. Its a lot easier to get the shape right than if you use one long stroke. Ok? :)
