Is Jump Canceling really necessary?

DragonMaster2010

Don't Let the Fall of America be Your Fall
I've been seeing some gameplay of the demo, and I've noticed that you really don't need jump canceling since you got the angel lift to stay in the air. Plus the attacks bring you more in the air too so there's that. So I'm thinking is jump canceling really needed at all?

Well, the main point of Jump Cancel is just that, canceling a move with a jump. It might be less necessary because each weapon has access to a few aerial moves now, but it can still be useful for quickly canceling something into something else. It keeps the options open for more variety, I suppose.

In the end, I really don't care if it's imperative or not - the game is still fun with or without it :p

It depends on who you ask. For people who found jump cancelling way too hard and wanted to stay in the air easier, air cancelling isn't necessary. For those who dislike how staying on air is easier now and wanted it to be difficult, then it is necessary.

You could say having both "pleases" both sides, but having one completely beats the purpose of having the other, if you ask me.

In SoS there is part where you have fight the fire and Ice knight right? Because the demon arm can't hurt the ice knight and th angel arm can't hurt the fire knight, it make sense to separate both them.

So what i do is fight the ice knight on the air so the fire knight can't hurt me. Since I can't use the demon pull to pull the ice knight towards me while i'm on air, I JC using the osiris the ice knight until i 'm high enough to perform combo.

Angel lift and demon pull aren't always usefull, and jump cancelling aren't always useless.

The only time I've really ever used JC across the entire DMC series was DMC 3, Beowulf specifically. Other than that I've never really felt it necessary to use it.

It was never necessary, most people beat the game without knowing such a technique exists. It's there just for people who really dig in-depth combat to have a game-changing mechanic to improve their combos.

I'm one of them
I didnt even know about JC before coming to these forums which was last year
yet I had no difficulty in beating the games

It's just like an extra difficulty setting. If normal play is too easy start using JC, when what you JC has become easy add new stuff into your mix to make it more difficult.

I completed DMC3-4 on DMD all S and never knew about JC'ing. I found it out when I stumbled upon one of the many combo vids. Unlocked a whole new world of possibilities :D (Also smacked me in the face pretty hard when all that time I thought I was doing really well as a DMC player).

JC was ever needed...?

Never used it ever until I recently decided to try it. It makes the game too easy, I think, unless you are using it to make life easier in DMD.

I learned about JC back when DMC3 was out.. I would say around 2006-7ish. But I managed to beat the game on DMD mode beforehand without knowing about it. Then I realized that Vergil was pretty easy to defeat JC'ing Beowulf.

I walked into DMC4 knowing about it, and I had a lot of fun figuring out how to cancel moves. But by no means was JC ever a necessary thing. If used correctly, it looks cool and you can do crazy cancels which speed up your combat, but that's it. It could probably make the game easier for you if you mastered it but nothing else.

Now, in DmC, JC is not needed to stay in the air... like at all. However, it helps you switch up your moves a lot faster. For example, if you want to stay in the air indefinitely then you might as well spam the living hell out of Osiris' double-up, Rebellion's roulette spin, or angel lift, but that's gonna give you little to no style meter. If you JC those moves then you might have more chances of switching to another weapon, then do something different, and gain way more style that way. The combat also looks way faster without spamming the chains all the time.

I do it to guarantee the enemy dies. If I know the enemy won't die after a small string I jump cancel to gain slight height and them repeat the combo. It's not necessary, but handy.

JCing is meh...

I will never, and i mean never!! pull out 10 helm breakers, that is just too easy and adds nothing to your style meter. I'll do it here and there but, i could careless about it.
