Is it really the game people hate?

I am starting to feel like no one actually hates this game as much as the PR. I mean it was originally that everyone was just mad about the hair, but when the PR refused to change it back, then the real sh*tstorm began, it was still very minor, but still flaming. The PR then made a slip up and called the original character outdated and such. This slip up was taken as a personal attack, and then it turned into a flame war. Names were thrown, the reaction videos were made, and somewhere on deviantart, there was a punching bag of new Dante.

The flame war was atrocious, horrid, paradise for a troll like me, but even a troll like me would look down at that flame war and said "Son, I am disappoint.", I stayed out of this flame war for the most part, but after watching Eventstatus, I saw how bad the flame war really was.
And while I will agree Eventstatus is a bit of a rage train some of the time, he has a point, people are going to speak with their wallets when you treat them like the PR started to after the flame war began.

So now my question is, is it the game people hate, or the PR?

I think the game will be just dandy-fine, (as long as they dont do anything else to screw it up),
Im more concerned about NT. They are:

1. Not listening to the fans. this is one of the 50 fastest ways to become a hated company. (or a fatter inbox of hatemail.)
They dont have to do what the fans want, but at least they should listen to them.
Its like sitting on Santa's lap, and telling him about the cool new hot wheels car set you so despretly want, but instead gives you a pretty-princess doll and a brick through your living room window.

2. Revolving the game around the british youth. This one is pretty obvious.

Dante smoking: "very youthful/cool." Little british flag on jacket. "very british..."
(if they took this out, please tell me.)
Trying to boost the fanbase in Europe? probably.

3. Changing devil arms. Rebellion does look cooler, and "actually has real magical powers". Ebony and Ivory kinda look like revolvers...

(this just looks unconfortable.)
This is what we call the "reboot process." Anything that can get changed, gets changed.
It just boils down to "hey, lets exfoliate the s**t out of the word reboot, lets change everything!"

NT is the problem. not the game.

Yeah. It really is the game I don't like. I think the PR could be better, but recently I haven't seen anything from NT that got on my nerves, so I'd say they are learning. The bad PR could be because they were such an under-the-radar developer before. Now they have in their hands a series with a dedicated fanbase. They probably just didn't know how to act because they weren't used to having so much attention. Plus, it's got to be overwhelming having people freak out about you and your game. I'd say NT are still inexperienced, which isn't a bad thing, but it looks like they are learning. So that's good. :)

The PR started the s**t storm, no question.
That's why with every new development, those who were offended from the start take more offense to a mechanic being changed or an interview question being answered.

More than anything, I think they should apologize for any missteps (the "I don't care" comment and the "Dante isn't cool anymore" comment mostly) and move on with the game.

I like these threads of yours when you aren't trying too hard to push forth the image of you trying to be a troll, mrlulz. Because these topics are relevant and actually add to the forum. So good job on this one!

From what I have seen on the different forums I am on and have been on, the hatred is mainly pointed at the PR and Ninja Theory. Sure, some haters are all about hating the new Dante and his looks, but those are the more superficial ones. Those who hate on the PR and Ninja Theory are those who actually feel hurt about the unfair treatment that has been caused to them. Their way of responding isn't really making things any better though and so it ends up in a vicious circle of disrespect, unnecessary hatred and fan rage.
We don't know that much about the game, so the hatred thrown at the game IS superficial. After the game's release and after people have actually played it, that is when I will pay attention to those who comment on it, because as it is now, there's just not enough content to judge from without being superficial. I think the new Dante looks hot and the gameplay looks nice, but those are all superficial opinions that no one can use for anything. But we all have more than enough material to judge the PR and Ninja Theory as the makers of the new Devil May Cry game, because we have seen Tameem and Alex in several interviews, answering questions and showing their opinions about Dante, Devil May Cry, the fanbase etc.

There are bad apples on both sides though and that is why I feel cheered up everytime I see someone of the fanbase taking a step back, taking a look around and move away from the vicious circle that has formed amongst the fans. We aren't at war here, it's not about taking sides and then yell our lungs out at eachother or at Ninja Theory and Capcom, or at the new Dante and the new game for that matter. It's about making a point of view from the knowledge we have gathered and discuss the matters at hand, giving constructive critique and see how it will end up. If the game turns out to be bad, then we should just call it a day and move on and wait to see what the next step will be which is either a new game of the original series or Devil May Cry being put on the shelf for good, from what I understand are the two options which Capcom presented to us. If the game turns out to be a success, then we will take it from there and see where it is headed next.
There is nothing wrong with forming an opinion and expressing it. It is the way you express it that will make an impact on how you will be percieved. That's just my opinion. ^^

I feel that the PR for the project was its biggest problem as its too disjointed and not satisfying as a whole.

The biggest mistake was the 6 months of silence between tgs and e3 as that was what killed them . They didn't really address the problems head on and just told people to wait for more info coming soon which doesn't fill you with much confidence. Plus you had guys like the main event who were able to use the silence in order to prove their point.

It's the PR really. The game is actually looking good.I have chat to many people and they all complain how NT and Capcom don't listen to the fans but they said that game is not half bad.NT is a newbie company anyways with only 3 games(4 if you count DmC)

You know what they say mate, haters gonna hate.
I like what I've seen. If the game is difficult, has well designed bosses. and awesome combos then it will be perfect, and it probably will have all of those.

Yeah, exactly. It looks just like other DMC games in terms of combat. And I've been starved for a good hack n' slash ever since Ninja Gaiden 3 disappointed me.
