I've been replaying DMC3 on the HD collection recently on Dante Must Die (and Vergil Must Die) and I must ask do you think Devil May Cry in of itself is really that difficult?
Once you learn how to play it the entire game in of itself really just gets a lot easier. Even if you do not upgrade your health, weapons, DT, etc. the game, in perspective, just gets easier.
Granted, the DMC series is pretty f#@&ing difficult and I broke many PS2 remotes by slamming them against the floor when I first started, but I'm talking about after you warm up to it, once you get down timing, jump cancelling, combos, dodges, and royal guard blocks.
Keep in mind that I am talking about the DMC pros, us guys that have played all of the games and, even if you're not Mr. SSS COMBO.
Do you think that the DMC series is as difficult as everyone claims, or do you think that it's really not that difficult once you actually play it?

yeah i would say its difficult once you master it though it lightens up but what would you expect after playing over and over and practicing till you were pretty much a god at playing

I think that it gets easier as you play it.
Mind you, when everyone hypes a game up to be utterly difficult, you start to think that the game will hand your a$$ to you on a plate.
I don't jump cancel, royal guard etc, it's purely button mashing combos, devil trigger, lots of vital stars and holy waters that have gotten me through all four games.

For me, I'm on the fence on this one.

DMC3's bosses on normal are very difficult for me, and I became a fan of Royal Guard due to this. I never invested much time into it for the HD Collection... I beat it dozens of times on the PS2, but without the cheats I've found the majority of enemies to be annoying. I only beat it once on the PS3 before putting it away. Overall, it's really difficult. I don't think I could ever beat it on Very Hard... I've found the whole game to be annoyingly designed.

DMC1 on the other hand, is pretty easy on normal. DMD was also easy as far as the enemies went, but once again I had a HUGE problem fighting the bosses. Gah, I must have used over 50 yellow orbs fighting Mundus... I spent hours trying to beat him until I finally got his life down to 1/3rd, and this is when I used my remaining Untouchables to finish him off. I platinum'd DMC1 the same week I got it.

I only beat DMC2/4 once... both games were boring for me. DMC2's enemies were really easy, never even tried the harder difficulties past normal since I found the bosses to be the hardest of all DMC's. I honestly don't remember DMC4, other than being annoyed by the story and the lack of fun I had.

All in all, for me it's half and half. Enemies are generally easy, while bosses are very hard.

I say it ain't that bad, but not once you get used to it, it's once you unlock everything.

It is hard the first time around, but once you know the pattern of the enemy you are fighting and understand how to defeat them, the game is simple. Such is how every DMC is. (except DMC2, which is dead easy until you get to that clusterfuck boss where all the past bosses are in one)

I don't know about you, but I've played all DMC games long enough and I still can't even start DMD on DMC1 nor finish Very Hard on DMC3: SE. I beat DMD on DMC4, but by the bare skin of my teeth. Last time I tried it again, I got my ass handed easilyl.

So yeah, I think those games can be pretty damn hard.

Ninja gaiden is much harder than DMC
you can easily complete normal mode in DMC but not ninja gaiden (ur gonna die at least a 100 times)

Ninja Gaiden isn't really all that hard, you have a near-infallible, omni-directional block mechanic that you're supposed to use to stay alive - which most people don't, and that's why they die so much :p

Yeah but everytime I play ninja gaiden, I try to be stylish like in DMC and forget about the different mechanics of this game and end up dead. NG is more like being effective and less stylish

Well yeah, Ninja Gaiden isn't a "Stylish Action" game like DMC. You have to play it really differently :p

Well it is hard till you figure out what works like using helmbreaker on harpies to get in some attacks or contering poisons attacks. One reason i think poison was easy to fight is because we've seen her quite a few times and knew her attacks patterns to some degree so dodging is easy if you're payin attention but when you get hit it does hurt quite a bit so im guessing other bosses will be more challenging since dont know what they can do and what to take advantage of. When it comes to enemies all we've seen is fodder and ungraded fodder so they're not hard to deal with but if you're hit by harpies or ravagers it takes a good chunk of life so i think the full game will be difficult on higher difficulties. I mean think about it throw in the chainsaw tyrant guy with a normal tyrant and some rages mixed with some high lvl fodder would seem pretty difficult and throw in some fire or ice enemies just to annoy you.

It still doesn't exempt you from playing it in a stylish manner. I always do this when I'm playing an action game.
DMC3/DMC4
God of War
Even in LoZ games I try to stylish. lol Basically perfectly dodging/countering enemies that are around me as well as using semi complex combo strings and maneuvering around quickly while I'm fighting.

I must be a really bad gamer then
I just can't be stylish and alive in most games other than DMC:P

Ironically enough I actually hated Ninja Gaiden because it hadn't got a hard lock-on button. My friend knew I was a major DMC-head so let Me try out his Ninja Gaiden when He up for the day; tried about 5 minutes worth of 1 mission and told him I was never playing it again.

Never have.

Like any game as you get better it becomes easier. I know when I was younger I found out that on DMC1 if you complete DMD mode you got infinite DT, that was it really there was no stopping me. I was barely able to complete normal when I started but most days I went back on and played, improving until I could do it.

I had problems with DMC3 when I was young. :P
Very Hard mode was....well, very hard. And don't get me started on DMD mode.
