If Vergil knew Mundus physical body was vulnerable when separated from the Hell Gate.

Then why(When Mundus was trying to rip Dante's chest open.) did he stab Mundus in his lower back? Why not in the neck? Or the back of his skull? Or the various other obvious fatal weak points on the human body?

It just seemed odd to me as to why he would stab Mundus in his lower back of all places.

Well, think about it. Mundus was not in his demon form and his human shell was vulnerable at the time. No matter what Vergil did, it wouldn't have changed the outcome. Hence the fall from the building.

On top of that, I think Vergil just wanted to talk trash to Mundus.

Getting stabbed in the back can be fatal if done right. People get paralyzed from that sort of injury. I guess in the context of DmC, Vergil just acted quickly to save his brother, then thought Mundus was finished when Dante threw him off the building.

Or maybe Vergil knew that Mundus still had some hell gate energy stored up, so any kind of damage done to Mundus would have no immediate effect until they had worn him down.

Even I was yelling, don't just stab him, decapitate him. and all the demons fights involved destroying their heads (the hunters was most likely cut because donte was going the thrust rebellion into the vagina on it's forhead) and it's not that stabing in the lower body won't cause him to bleed out, but when it comes to demon kings always use overkill to finish them off, to make sure they don't transform into a new form
