If RE2 Remake is the standard right now, how about DMC5?

Resident Evil 2 Remake is already out worldwide, and a lot of people are enjoying the game. The game got the same touch as the original. To a T. Yeah the game has some subtle changes, but not changes that break the game, it actually improves the experience. RE2 Remake is the best game I've played from Capcom in a while. That's saying a lot.

So, if the quality is this good right now... What are your expectations of DMC5?

Similar, same, disappointing, bad, etc...? Me? If RE2Remake already surpassed many people's expectations... I hope the trend continues, and we get DMC5 to where we want it to be.

I think it would get some praise but that would depend on how people felt about DMC. RE2 remake was a game that held a space in people's hearts

I see it being the flavor of the month rather something that would keep being talked about for a long time. We'd probably be talking about it long after the community/critics move onto something else.

That sounds like most games. New hi-profile games come out every month to the point people move on from game to game. It will happen to RE2 and even KH3 and other games that come out before and after DMC5. DMC5 has just as much sentimental value to a lot of people as much as RE2 Re does to its fanbase. Granted RE is the bigger more well known franchise.

The praise it will get will be in relation to its quality the gaming community has relatively moved past the iconography of brands and have become more focused on the merits of the game itself and in many cases pedigree of the developer if unknown niche series (like Persona and Nier) can become mega hits that gets nominated for/win awards. I've been looking around the interwebs and DMC5 is on a lot of people's radars as much as RE2, KH3, Sekiro, and any other game coming out this year. Mainstream media will move on (well its their job to keep covering new stuff and not keep fixating on old news) but this will probably be the game the DMC community and action games fans will solely latch on to (probably finally dropping DMC4 and DmC altogether) and probably won't stop talking about it until maybe Bayonetta 3 drops.......or Capcom announces another DMC game.

It would be more appropriate to say it would depend on how people feel about action games especially considering when people say action games DMC usually pops up (GOW is thrown around a lot more if they're a casual) considering it popularized the genre, laid out its structure and foundations, and made it what it is today.

It really depends on how the final game turns out. It could become the next gold standard that fast paced action games will be measured by for awhile (like DMC3 was) or just another great game to bring in more interest into the genre/series.

I'm not as impressed with REmake 2 as everyone else is. I still prefer the original. Still, to answer your question, I have a lot of mixed feelings about DMC5. I'm both excited and apathetic about it. It's rather ambivalent, I know, but when I think about getting my hands on the game I get excited but when I consider how the game has decided to keep things that I very specifically hated about DMC4 in place that excitement depletes and deflates. I'm not in this for the ridiculous advanced combat tactics or the ability to jc for 3 hours. I'm in it for the atmosphere, the horror elements, the stylish action (not the same as, or even attached to, advanced combat) and, most of all, for Dante himself, and most of the things on that list have all been either watered down, removed, altered to something less impactful or just plain old become a joke. Still, when I think about the possibilities and all the things I've seen so far I still get excited about what could be around the corner, the big and little things. It's a weird cycle but that's how I feel about it.
