I was just wondering, which do you think is better; DMC3: dante's awakening the game, or DMC3: code 1 and code 2?

Personally I prefer the manga more then the game because Dante seemed more badass and lethal in the manga compared to the game. He didn't try to act cool but let his actions do that while his voice was the topping. in the game he came off as a dork to me, but in the manga he was ruthless. Same for Vergil, he had more carnage in his character then in the game, as he rally showed no humanity in his soul, while the game Vergil didn't seem all that non-human like to me.

The story wasn't as huge as DMC3, but to me it certainly was an interesting one.

So what do you think?

This is difficult.

Dante is more of a dork in the game for sure, but I prefer Vergil's character in the game. He's got this one line of dialogue in the manga that changes everything about his motives and whether he can be considered 'chaotic neutral' or 'chaotic evil', and I prefer the chaotic neutral Vergil of the game. Realistically though, Vergil killing punks and librarians is fine by me. I'm not one of these Vergil buffs who makes excuses for his actions by saying he's really a good person underneath.

Not that I don't like the manga, or darker versions of Dante in other doujinshi because it emphasizes the conflict his character must really go through; there's something appealing about showing more of the demonic in Dante than any of the games ever do. I remember a conversation with a friend some years ago when she asked me about a wallpaper I had on my computer of Dante from DMC2. She didn't know anything about the game or the character but she said, "he's got this slightly psychotic look about him, that's kind of appealing to me." Lulz. But we don't really get to see that much of that in the games beyond Dante changing visually into a demon. He keeps himself in impressive check, considering... not the case at all in the manga. Even Enzo is apparently afraid of Dante in it, but you don't get the sense Dante is all that 'dangerous' an ego from some of the games.

I guess I'm more at home with the darker stuff in the manga, and I think Dante being less of a dork was kind of refreshing.

It is hard question since the manga was abandoned halfway through so it isnt a far comparison.

A better comparison might be between this manga and the first light novel.

I'd say the game but I'm biased because I didnt feel that the manga wasnt a neccessary read.
