Since I have tons of fanfiction ideas, but never get anywhere past chapter 1, I thought about making a thread where I toss them into public view and the public can pick something they like and be creative with it.

Here goes...

Idea 1

Matier: You must not worry, my dear; I am sure that he will return. Everything is just as it was with Sparda.
Lucia: ...But... Sparda DID come back...
(quotes taken from DMC2 script)

The twins were already born or on the way when Sparda fought alongside the clan. Matier said everything was happening just like with Sparda and so he went to Hell. But he came back and upon realizing the demons struck while he was gone and his family, sans a very shocked Dante, was gone, he sworn revenge.

Dante was placed in care of one of the clan's woman, this was the "mother" of Tony from the anime, strong and knowledgeable enough to seal away the demon that came to kill the boy.

In the meantime, Sparda had decided to go back into Hell, under a different name and with a good disguise. With the majority of his power sealed away and waiting for his sons, he was not so easy to be recognized by other demons.

Since then he had been fighting alongside one of the throne pretendants (or is even one himself, depending how good he is at disguising thing), with the intent on taking the throne himself one day and putting the demons under what they hate the most - his rule.

He was also the one to send broken Yamato, along with Vergil's soul in it, to the shores of Fortuna island, reuniting Vergil and his son.

Idea 2

Coastal town of Origo is home to many fishermen, including Giorgio Carnesseca, his wife Rufina and their three children - Roma, Paolo and Rea.
Rufina is a beautiful red-head and not a native, Giorgio met her on his travels, in a faraway country with harsh winters (I was thinking Russia, but with DMC taking inspiration, but not exact geography from our world, I wanted to stick to the formula). Despite her trying to fit in, and even adopting their religious practice to the point of being a fanatic, she never earned full trust from the community. Don't feel sorry for her though, it's all an act, as she is secretly a witch promised by a demon a life of riches and power if she did her part of sacrificing people to fuel opening of the hidden hellgate.

The children, 16 year old Roma, a year younger Paolo and 5 year old Rea were typical kids, taking looks from their mother.
Roma as the eldest is the most responsible, dreaming sometimes of having her own family and sometimes being a respected scholar away from the town. This other dream came from her secret, a seemingly endless abandoned library (Sparda's old storage) she discovered while running from demons through the forest of the neighboring island of Fortuna one day.
Paolo is a typical boy, always running off with other boys and causing trouble. Rea is a very energetic kid, but more interested in picking flowers and making mud cakes than anything else.

One night a white haired young man overhears someone talking about the new leader in Fortuna, and the name of the place rings a bell so he decides to go there. The night after he shows up on the doorstep of the Carnesseca house asking to be taken by boat on the island. But with both parents away on town's festival, only Roma and Rea were in the house. Being curious and promised a monetary reward, Roma takes the man calling himself Vergil to the island with her small boat (the kid was there too, much to Vergil's chagrin). He leaves the girls waiting on the shore, while he himself goes to visit his father's old home (old devil's penthouse, lol) and is seen by Sanctus there. On the way back to Origo, Roma blurts out her secret and it gets Vergil intrigued (Vergil is libersexual, liber as in book, true fact). He makes the girl promise she will sneak out the next night and take him to the island again. They do so every night for some time, Vergil unable to just stay on the island since demons are more active when he is around, which would raise suspicion in the Order.
Unknown to them, Rufina found out about their trips, but her demon did as well. He gives her an order to raise a storm and let her daughter and Vergil be taken by the sea. Half way to Fortuna, the storm hits the boat, but thanks to Vergil they both make it to the shore alive. Drenched to the bone they take refugee in the library, where hormones and nakedness does it's thing and... well... Nero is conceived. Though none of them knows about the kid to be of course, until Vergil is long gone. Roma is forced to hide her pregnancy, becoming more and more suspicious of her mother as months go by. She finds out it was her mother that tried to kill them and now she wants to sacrifice the baby. While trying to escape they found themselves on the cliff and in struggle Rufina falls down to her death. Roma, now having contractions from the shock, goes to Fortuna and gives birth to Nero, wrapping him in a black blanket she found in the library. With the last of her strength she leaves the baby where town's patrol will find it and returns to the library. As Vergil is falling down to Hell, Roma bids farewell to the world of living, Vergil's name coming over her lips with her dying breath.

17 years later, town Origo is being plagued by strange murder cases, where people end up impaled on a rose bush that withers with rays of sunshine.
Rea Carnesseca, the quirky school teacher (Origo only has elementary school, for anything higher kids have to travel to nearest big town), is suspected cause of the rumors surrounding her family. To clear the mystery she calls the young demon hunter from Fortuna, not realizing he is her deceased sister's son Nero until she lays her eyes on him, though she pretends she doesn't know anything and forces her older brother to do the same.
Despite taking care of some smaller demons, Nero is unable to catch the killer, the victim count getting really close to hundred, and with reluctance follows Kyrie's suggestion to call Dante. Rea is strangely intrigued by Dante, he chalks it up to his good looks. He was somewhat right, as it will be revealed later.

The investigation (and some demon fighting) leads Dante and Nero to follow a dark hooded figure to ruins of a castle in the forest. Just as they were at the entrance all Hell... okay, not all, but a decent chunk, breaks loose. Bloodgoyles fly over to the town and Nero is forced to retreat to help them, while Dante makes his way through ruins, fighting whatever he finds on the way. In the tallest tower he finds something like a chapel, with a strange looking altar in the middle and Rea standing above dead Paolo, crying how he tried to kill her. Dante feels something is not right, but still comes close to the upset woman... and gets stabbed in the chest. Rea's face twists into a vicious smile, as she twists the knife only an inch away from Dante's heart. She steps away and he pulls the knife out, his blood flowing onto the altar that activates. As the altar and the columns around it start to glow, Rea tells of her family's history with Vergil and how she plans to revive him using this old contraption ancient demons left before worlds got separated, so he can rule the world. She needed 100 victims, with her brother being the final one, DNA of the one she is trying to revive, and twin's DNA is perfect substitute, and the machine will call upon the soul and create a new body for it, in age of the DNA donor.
Light fills the room, while back in town Nero doubles over in pain and upon coming to his senses realizes that while the arm is still looking the same, the blue apparition is gone, leaving the arm devoid of it's special properties sans hard shell. Back in the castle, Dante looks in shock as his brother comes to life before him, body being built from bones, inner organs, muscles and finally skin and hair.
Vergil is back and naked as on the day he was born... well, it is a day he was born again, so it's understandable. Still confused from the process, he can only act upon instinct and after pushing Dante away, jumps out the window and runs into the forest like a wild cat. Rea tries to make an escape, Vergil's state of mind was something she didn't quite expected, but Dante stops her and knocks her out.

As he runs through nature, Vergil is having an inner struggle with his thoughts and memories, till he remembers everything. Stealing some clothes from a monastery nearby (my evil side says make it a nunnery XD ), he returns to the old library and finds Roma's bones there, still in the exact spot where she died. Cue an emotional moment where he bows to what's left of the woman he began to love back then and who gave him a strong son he got to know only through spiritual connection, and laments how he was too much of a failure to protect them. Once he is done, he searches through the library for records of another weapon he could use, since he doesn't plan to take away Yamato from Nero.
He finds a story of such a thing, though it requires him to travel abroad (I'm thinking northeastern Asia, maybe even Japan to continue with Vergil's theme). And he does so, climbing mountains and using his brains to fight off any small demons he comes across with whatever he can find or his own claws in devil trigger state. On the top, he finds a cave and is there met with a challenge from which he emerges victorious and with a sword named Raijin in hand. In design it is similar to Yamato, though it's cutting power is lesser. From special properties it has an attack that sends a gust of wind that can send the enemy flying, and an attack that imprisons them in a black cloud and sends electricity through their body that can either stun or kill depending on the strength of the person that got hit. Also, when Vergil makes a hit with the blade, it sends a small amount of electricity through their body.

Back home, Rea was placed in a special prison made for magic users. Dante is trying to find his brother, but without luck. Nero is feeling really down cause he lost the blue dude and can't trigger anymore. One night, Rea gets picked up by suspicious looking men in a black car, seems like they were military or something, but had the right papers. Through his informants Dante finds out and thinking it might somehow be connected to Vergil, goes to investigate, dragging Nero with him on Kyrie's suggestion.

Together they locate a military base on the coast, and rumors say it's being run by a man in late thirties or early forties with white hair and carrying a sword. That of course interests Dante and he sneaks into the base. Yes, sneaks in, he wants to check out the dude, but guards are humans and it would be a pain in the butt to deal with them.

Meanwhile, Vergil is also back and through a very awkward conversation with Kyrie finds out with whom to find Nero and in which part of the country, though it's pure luck that he sees the base while traveling and feels a strange pull towards it. It just happens that he sneaked in on the same night as Dante. They run into each other, Dante thinks it's really Vergil that runs the base, they fight while Vergil tries to explain to his brother that he is an idiot... and then they get stopped by a sword flying between them. The real head honcho is here and it's Sparda! After separating from Eva thinking it'll keep the demons away from her, he traveled under the name Jack Conner and joined the army as a demon hunter. Upon return, with Eva gone and Dante in ownership of the sword, he founded a private army for hunting demons to help cause Dante can't be on multiple places at once and those demons were starting to get really pesky.

(this is all I got, there was going to be Rea breaking free and trying something again, and Nero gaining his own full devil trigger, but my brain went no no at this point)

Idea 3

Fortuna Inn (the hotel with big green sign you see in the game) seems like an ordinary place for tourists to sleep over when they get tired of admiring the towns architecture or listening the performance at the Opera house.
But it's actually the place where Agnus gets some of his experimentation subjects, for his attempts at fusing human and demon into a perfect warrior, always making sure not to take too many at once, so their disappearance can be simply covered up.
The story can be done from the perspective of one of those victims, going from an ordinary person, to a prisoner, and finally to a monster with glimpses of humanity that either Nero or Dante meet on their way.
Depending on how long you want to make it, it can end with their sad death or they can survive. And then again choose your own path, will the survivor remain a monster and be hunted by the demon hunters, or will it have to learn to live in society as part-human, part-demon.
Has potential of being a nice little horror story.

Idea 4

Dante and Vergil are ordinary humans and working as private investigators. Sometimes they get help from Lady, who works for the police trying to repay the society for her father's crimes, since Arkham was a serial killer known as The Jester.
One night Dante gets a visit from his deceased mother's relative, Beatrice, and both brothers are pulled deep into the world of italian mafia, with Mundus being the leader, Nevan a woman Sparda was supposed to marry had he not met Eva and demon bosses from the games are now gang bosses or killers in hunt for blood.
Along the way they get surprising help from a gang their father formed in secrecy - The Order of the Sword, though they'll clash with their frail, old leader and his idea of creating peace in the country through dictatorship. With the help of Credo and the gang's youngest member, a surprise for Vergil that brought back old memories, they'll put the Order back on it's path and into the final showdown that will bring the final rest for old generation so that new generations can rise.

"Vesania asylum... they are.... come", was the only thing Dante could hear Lady say before connection cut off. The old mental hospital stood abandoned on the outskirts of the city, no one daring to enter the dilapidated structure with crumbling floors and whispers of those who ended their lives there.
In the darkness of this eerie labyrinth, where the only living are not of human origin, will Dante come in time to rescue his friend or will he succumb to the curse and become mad himself?

During Sparda's rebellion, the werewolf race, a separate one from humans and devils, was divided into two fractions. The one on the demon side was closed with them into their world, while the more neutral one remained in human world. Sparda left them alone, but demons ran their name through mud and marked them as prey, decimating the once great specie and turning them into resentful fugitives that hide among people, mimicking their appearance.

The city of Plenilunio has been plagued by vicious murders for some time. The mayor, concerned about the elections and his own safety at this point, decides to call in a demon hunter, much to the chagrin of detective Gaetana Lupine, the cheerful workaholic of local police force (PPD). To make matters worse, the hunter they called in seems to have something in common with her - white hair, penchant for red jackets and not a really human smell. We all know Dante is half-devil, but in this world very few know Gaetana, more commonly called Tana, is actually a white werewolf (no special powers, it's just a not very common fur color passed down her family).

Investigation leads the duo to the popular night club, whose secret level hosts demons and those who wish to join them in evil. It is also the place where one can make trades with the owner for whatever you desire, whether it's a demonic artifact his men will acquire for you or a head of your enemy.

Will they put an end to this evil hidden under city streets, or will the blood red club be decorated with the head of a majestic white wolf-girl?

I've been reading to much HP fanfiction. Idea 6 instantly had me thinking of Remus. :banghead:
lol, it happened to me too when I was trying to come up with suitable name for the woman. Still went with Lupine, hard to find a more relevant word that that one that also sounds cool as a name.

Interestingly, the idea for the club owner, whose description I forgot to write down (oops), was inspired by another Remus.

Idea 7

In ancient times lived a king that loved the darkness and it's magic a bit too much. Not to mention conquest, he dreamed of ruling the whole human world, maybe even that of demons. Before he could get far, Sparda foiled his plans and the evil king, together with his majestic stone city, was imprisoned in the mountain.

Centuries later, a legend of a city decorated in gold and gems circles the world. It is not a city one can enter so freely, for only on the night of full moon do the gates on the side of the mountain open and out comes a giant snake. If the person the snake sees is not a virgin, the snake has a secure dinner that night. If it is a virgin, the snake opens it's mouth and offers the keys to the city for the brave person to take. (Interesting fact, this part was based on an old Croatian tale.)

On such night, young Nero and Kyrie find themselves in the mountain. While Nero is sidetracked by a nest of demons, Kyrie stumbles upon the door and the snake... and the key is hers.

But one thing the legend didn't say... the snake is the king himself, it does not disappear with the transfer of the key, it becomes a small parasite and crawls into Kyrie's ear, possessing her. Now the girl is his vessel and the king can work on his dream once again.

Or will the young demon hunter and his older red-clad friend put a stop to this menace once and for all?

Idea 8 (AU)

Post Temen-ni-gru incident Dante and Lady had a short fling, but decided to just stay friends. Only, Lady was left pregnant. Hiding it all and disappearing under demon hunting excuse, she gives birth to a male child and leaves it in Fortuna city, knowing about the place from Arkham's research, thinking he will be safe among those that worship his grandfather. That child was Nero. 16 years later, with Lady still keeping a lookout for her boy, she has to get his father involved to save him from the Order and it's schemes. Will she be able to keep the secret with father and son finally standing side by side or will the resemblance raise the right questions?

#7 sounds cool and could be a way to show Fortuna's history as you could drum up a conflict between Fortuna and this city of the snake.

#8 sounds good but what would make or break it is how you handle why she didnt tell Dante etc.

I had the best intention, but the curse of chapter one continues. At least I managed to push out the scene that inspired the whole thing as a bonus in between.

Idea 9 (crossover)

Post Shadow Moses incident, Metal Gears have started to pop over the world like mushrooms after rain. One such can be found deep underground in the base on Anguis Island, home to mercenary group Infra.

Once just another group of soldiers, their second-in-command, codename Lightning Wolf, begins to notice changes, like his men are becoming soulless shells. His attempt at conveying his suspicion to his teammates and the highest in command, General Umbra, are futile and only make him spread said suspicion on general himself.

Secretly following general to a room that has recently become off limits to anyone but him, he stumbles upon a demonic contraption that the general activates. For what feels like eternity, Wolf finds himself in a state best described as being broken down to atoms and reassembled again and again. Until his almost automatized actions lead him to interrupt the process. This earns him the general's wrath, for he had planned to relocate this other dimension's human world to his own dimension and his home, the Demon world. Instead they have landed in the human world once reigned by Sparda.

Somewhere in the base, a man hidden under a box cusses after his many futile attempts to reestablish contact with his support.

Barely escaping the attack, running into an ally on the way, in both meanings of the word, injured Wolf and Johnny now must find out where they are and how they can stop the general from handing over a good number of nukes and the bipedal tank known as Metal Gear Ignis to the unholy army and its king.

Meanwhile, the appearance of the new island not so far from the coast catches attention of the large city, though as usual officials are taking their sweet time to act on it, frightened of what awaits them there.

Trying to get some information and help at the local police station proves to be fruitless for Wolf and his companion. Though not entirely, as it catches attention of Enzo, who slips them a card with the address of Devil May Cry.

At the said demon hunting agency, Lady is trying to talk Dante into partnering with her for the island investigation business the government hired her to do. Her patience was wearing quite thin as the front door opens and two strangers walk in.

The moment the front door protested against being opened with a loud squeak, both hunters went quiet.
Two men entered, one with visible difficulty and a hand over the spot on his ribs where it seemed to hurt quite a lot. While he wouldn't let it show on his face, Dante took interest at the fact he could smell that all too familiar coppery scent of blood.
"We're closed." In a bored tone, he proclaimed. It was a lie, but one he uttered when he wanted to test how serious the client really was. Actual trouble does wonders for ones persistence, though it was not a method without fault, considering the number of cats he had to rescue from trees.
The newcomers didn't budge, though the younger man in the back seemed to be rather embarrassed by Lady's presence. And somewhat twitchy.
"I said we're closed. If you need to use the bathroom, it's in the back."
"We are not in position to wait, this is..." Wolf didn't even manage to finish what he desired to say, when a sound reminiscent of a demon growl interrupted everyone's thoughts. Out of pure instinct, both Dante and Lady reached for their guns, expecting windows getting smashed in any moment now. Instead, young Johnny ran pass them, muttering his thanks on the way.
Three pairs of bewildered eyes stared at the bathroom door, behind which a sound best described as exorcism of ones bowels could be heard, as well as Johnny's cries over his bad luck with beautiful women and the trouble his body gives him when seeing one.
Upon hearing the man's woes, Dante turned to Lady. "I think he just gave you a compliment."
She opened her mouth to speak, but cringed instead at another loud sound.
Flushing and washing his hands in the basin that was one of rare clean spots in this poorly kept bathroom, Johnny stepped out with an apologetic look. The two men were no longer paying attention to him, but Lady was shooting him mean looks, the reason for it perfectly read from the two fingers pinching her nose and the hand that was desperately trying to open the window.

After the embarrassing interlude, Wolf gives them the perfect reason to finally get Dante on that island. But there is a catch, since general has access to nukes and can launch them if he feels threatened, they need to make this a secret infiltration mission, as opposed to stylish slaughter both of them are known for.

Under disguise of the night, they dock their boat on the shore and silently disappear into the islands thick forest, keeping radio connection with Wolf.

Dante's skill with blades and gymnastics comes in handy as demonic guards silently lose battle one by one. As they work their way through base, they cross paths with none other than Solid Snake. After talk with Wolf through codec (these two have it by default, there was no way for Dante and Lady to get it, so they are using regular radio), and a desperate jump of both Snake and Lady on Dante before he uses his guns to deal with a demon in room full of nukes, he agrees to help. After this, Dante goes for the machine that brought them into this dimension, while Snake and Lady head to destroy Metal Gear.

Cue more battle, not only with guards, but also two big names. Wolf's former team mates, Oleander Widow and Flame Bull (horrible names, I know XD ) have sold their souls for becoming demons themselves. Widow, once a sexy vixen with long pair of legs, now sports eight of them, as her lower body was replaced with the body of a giant spider. Her attacks are silk threads that can cut through flesh like it's melted butter, small blades laced with poison and a vomit of silk webbing to catch her victim. Bull on the other hand shares resemblance with Minotaur, with enormous strength and fire coming out of his nostrils with each breath.

After these ordeals, Dante is successful in finding the machine. It is damaged from interrupted process the last time, so it takes some time to load and do its thing. Dante leaves it to fully activate, while he himself rushes to get Lady, so they can bail before they too get sent to another dimension.
In the basement, Snake and Lady are having a hard time fighting the Metal Gear possessed by general Umbra, breathing a sigh of relief when Dante comes to the rescue. All three defeat the huge metallic/organic machine. The island begins to shake and it is evident that the process of moving is near it's start. Dante grabs Lady, and after bidding farewell to Snake, triggers and gets them two out. They land in the sea and in the blinding flash of light, the island disappears. It comes home safely, Snake having now to listen to Otacon's worried cries. On the shore, Johnny would be crying from happiness if he weren't busy chasing off seagulls that woke up with sunrise.

But where is Wolf?
Well, back in the previous place, where the island shortly stood, Dante and Lady are swimming to the shore. To their surprise, the boat they used to come to the island passes by them and comes to a stop, Wolf calling them to board. With his team dead, everything lost, and an epiphany that the battles they lead back home are foolish compared to true horrors, Wolf has decided to stay in this world and put his skills into a good use - demon hunting.

The End (or is it?)

Idea 10

Visiting town of Fortuna with her parents, little Alessandra (feminine and latinized form of Greek name meaning "defending men"), commonly called Ale, is left in awe at the knights of the Order, but her dreams are crushed when she finds out they do not accept women in their fighting ranks.
Years pass, and Ale's family falls to very low branches. She tries to join the knights, but despite being fit and having some skills with the sword she is chased out.
Meanwhile, suspecting something foul is happening in the Order, pope Solemnis (see the summary of Deadly Fortune for where this guy came from and who wants him dead) comes to conclusion he needs a trusty person to spy for him among the knights. But all the candidates have familial connection to someone already in the Order, and even if there weren't, there was still the matter of him not really having anything to keep them in his fist and force them into the sneaky scheme. Then he finds out about this crazy girl that wanted to join. Sending his old servant, the only person left he could trust, to find her, Solemnis proposes a deal to Ale - she will join the Order with his recommendation, but as her made up male twin Alessandro. Her family will prosper once more, she will be closer to her dream, all she has to do is find out who is after Solemnis' life.
So she enters the Order to pass many challenges, not only in training and battle, but also in keeping her gender and her mission secret.
Along the way, not only will she dive deep into evil schemes of retired general Sanctus, but also cross paths (and swords) with a strange young man with white hair and blue attire.

Idea 11

DMC/Snatcher crossover, where Sparda was a snatcher that experienced something strange called feelings for a human scientist named Eva, and prevented snatcher invasion. Later on, Eva gave birth to genetically modified children to complete the illusion of normal family she always wanted. But snatchers are on the rise again, and Sparda only has time to save his children, while the love of his life is lost forever. As time goes by, he places cybernetic implants into the twins, preparing them for the day when the only thing standing between humans and ruthless bioroids are the mighty sons of Eva.
But another attack spells the end for Sparda, and separates the twins, leaving Dante with no memories. All the young man knows is that he is not really human and there is importance in word... "Junker".

Also features Lady as fellow runner and daughter of crazy scientist obsessed with snatchers in wrong ways, as well as Trish, who is basically snatched Eva, and as in original, develops feelings.
