As all tropers know, an expy is a rip-off or shout out to a famous character.
It can be subtle and character wise (Simon from TTGL bring Shinji done right), subtle and appearance wise (Zoro from One Piece starts to bear a remarkable resemblance to everyone's favorite Black swordsman) kind of obvious personality wise (Man-bat is a bat themed version of The Lizard) or PRETTY ****ING BLATENT! (Marcelles in Dragon's Dogma is Caska with a French accent, Green Arrow was Batman in the 60's and 70's, can you honestly tell me there is no reference to Berserk in Auron's appearance?)
