Do you think sales will be enough for a sequel?

So I am hearing all over the place that DmC isn't selling well, even dmc 4 outsold it first week sales by 400k approx. What do you guys think this means for the future of the franchise? I really hoped the game would sell but at this point I am thinking capcom may not do another dmc game in a long time. I think dmc4 failed to meet their sales marks and this reboot probably failed even more.

Well it is not selling as well as they wanted it to. There will almost definitely be a DmC2 because of the ending. But after that the future of DMC as a franchise does not look bright unless they find someway to change their ways. Im not saying they are wrong for making a reboot but it ****ed a ton of people off and it split the fanbase right down the middle. A perfect example is this site. There are not many people who can accept that someone else likes the other version of DMC more.

And I can see how sales are not the best. I did not even buy new DmC because I dont support it enough. I rented.

I hope it doesn't become like prototype. I loved that series and couldn't believe it when the sales were so low that they closed down the studio. All that sells nowadays are shooters this shooters that. I am honestly tired of one genre ruling the industry with an iron grip. Its complete bs that some other genres struggle to succeed while shooters can be terrible and still sell like hotcakes..

I really hate the phrase split down the middle as if you have to be one or the other, i've liked every game in the franchise warts and all and would be happy with the series continuing in either incarnation.

Same here. I loved all the games but I think Capcom might be hesitant on making either series if this flops. I don't think dmc 4 sold all that well either.

I want to say that Capcom would go back to DMC and finish it so that if DmC does get a sequel there won't be as much backlash

I really don't see that happening in all honestly the only thing i could see that would make them bring back the old series AND DmC is if they had some involvement from Platinum on DMC (maybe a DMC/Bayonetta crossover...one can dream)

If Capcom experiences losses more than production costs, they'll have no problem pulling the plug on the franchise. Basic economics for firms seeking to maximise profit.

What I mean is if the sales continue to drop or don't go up enough capcom will either return and finish DMC or not make a new devil may cry game for the next few years. If capcom does the latter then after that they might continue DmC because it would be easy money. But a DMC/Bayonetta crossover would be awesome seeing how they technically exist in the same universe.

Wait, THAT's why there's no more prototype?
