ok so with all the gameplay elements and mechanics that tameem has revealed, i believe i may have figured out the control scheme for DmC.
ps3:
L2-angel/demon form for weapon alternation R2-demon/angel form for weapon alternation
L1- demon/angel trigger R1- lock on
/\-sword/melee attack
[ ]-gun attack
X-jump
O-grab/whip chain attack
directional buttons-control the altercations of your weapons

so i believe this will be the control scheme, but post your opinions, comments, or changes you would like to see done to the control scheme.

Cool Thread.

A few questions though. Firstly, 'L1' will put you in 'Devil/Angel Trigger'? Which mode will it pick first? And then you can switch between angel and demon by using 'L2' and 'R2' at any time whilst you've 'triggered', right?

I don't fully understand how the 'trigger' thing works just yet.

Also, when you say 'O' is used for grab, do you also mean to grab things in the environment? Because remember, that's another new aspect to this game, the whole interacting with the level thing.

thanks :)

and let's see im really not sure on how the devil/angel trigger thing would work exactly, but i do have an interesting concept. okay so maybe when you press L1 you go into the trigger mode, which is the white-haired dante that we've seen in a few moments of the gameplay. once you are triggered into white haired dante, you can either press L2 or R2 to change between angel and demon forms.
also yeah i believe you will be able to use O to grab things in the environment, much like the devil bringer. so perhaps it will be used for platforming purposes also.

Yeah that seems to make sense to me. You make a good point. 'L1' will probably put you into 'Trigger' Mode, and then you'll be able to toggle between your angel and demon form with 'L2' and 'R2'. I also agree that when you do 'trigger' you should go into the demon form first, with Dante having white hair and a redder trench coat. I think it makes it feel more like Devil May Cry, if they stuck to the demon side first.

I like that idea. So 'O' will be used to attack enemies during combat, but it will also act like an action button? So let's say 'O' is action, grab and whip attack. I also think it would be pretty cool if Dante could whip onto things in the environment and swig across or pull himself upwards. Kind of like Batman's grappling gun in the Batman games. Also if Dante could use the whip to pull things towards him, whilst in and out of combat (Things he wouldn't normally be able to reach) or things he can use against demons whilst fighting them.

sorry to interrupt, but if they are recycling the system from Heavenly sword, is there any chance they could give Dante light and heavy attacks?
(My idea)

/\: Heavy attack (melee) (ie grabs and throws)
[ ]: light attack (slashes Aand whatever else is classed as a light attack)
O : Guns
X : Jump
L1: DT/AT
R1: Aim
control pad (not stick): style change or dt/at change
L2&R2: Cycle through weapons

I think the "whip/grab" is a demon form move because it turns red when its used. Also when he attacks he sometimes uses basic hand to hand moves which are present in the trailers. Dunno if this changes anything but the "O" button is still a mystery to me

yeah i definitely think that the O will be able to do all of those things and
Vergil'sBitch: very possible, but im afraid if they do the light, heavy attacks then it will be too close to god of war. but im totally not disregarding your theory at all.

i think hand to hand combat could be a good thing as long as it was super stylish. and yes the O button is somewhat of a mystery lol

The function of the O button varied throughout DMC. From the Instruction manuals of the DMC games (My DMC 4 game didn't come with a manual, as it was pre-owned)

DMC: O button: Sword/punch (hand to hand)
DMC 2: O button: Examine/Evade (dodge)
DMC 3: O button: Style Move/Check (Set Trickster/Gunslinger/Royal Guard/Swordmaster move or attack/Examine)
DMC 4: O button: Devil Bringer/Examine/Cancel (Devil Bringer attack moves/Check stuff out/Cancel out of menus)

The O button is a very versatile button throughout the DMC series. So who knows what NT will use it for in the final product.

very good point. so in this game it will more than likely do something different. to be quite honest i would like the O button to do a special grab move much like the devil bringer did. that may seem stupid, but i've always wanted dante to have cool finishing moves

Given past history, Examine might be one possibility. In 3 out of 4 games, you used the O button to check stuff out. Devil Triggering was usually a combo button press, most likely to avoid activating it accidently.

Since DmC employs a form/style based system similar to DMC 3, the functions of the buttons may be exclusive to each form or style. The O button may have 3 different functions, based on devil, angel or human form. Depending on how complex this gets, it could be more of a hinderance than a help. However, the style system in DMC 3 worked pretty well, given the button functions technically changed every time you switched styles - because you're focusing with a different weapon type with each style (in the case of gunslinger or swordmaster) or general actions (trickster or royal guard).

I see gameplay promise here, as long as it's not made overly complex or poorly executed. Poor play control will destroy any game instantly, no matter how much "eye-candy" there is.

okay that makes alot of sense, having the O button doing 3 functions for each form. hopefully the control scheme won't get too complicated to enjoy.
