DmC gunplay

REAPER 3142

Revenge Solves Everything..............
As much as I loved the combat for DmC, I felt as though Ebony and Ivory weren't given as much attention as I would have liked. Rainstorm/Inverse Rainstorm were fun, and Riccoshot was useful. But I missed stuff like Wildstomp, Twosome time, Crazy Ride and Honeycomb from the previous games. Since DmC doesn't have a style system that (Hopefully.) DmC2 E&I could be mapped to the melee buttons as well, adding some really fun and stylish gunplay for Dante. This could easily bring back those older abilities and possibly introduce some new ones.

Awesome E&I show.

Thoughts/ Other ideas?

Yeah. What I believe made DMC 3 slightly better was the fact that there was an activation list with certain weapons. DMC 4 didn't have this and that's what caused it to plummet in the gameplay department. I do, however, believe that at first in DmC we had an activation list and that it was taken out.

I mean, who wouldn't mind using the environment or the enemies for transportation. The most it can do is build the style aspect of Devil May Cry.

I am slightly disappointed in Itsuno for giving us those options in 3 and not 4.

There's so much they could do if they expand on the movelist, like adding the Up+Up and Up+Down inputs to the Melee Special and Gun Special keys in DmC. You could even get something like "Dance Macabre" back on a Up+Up+MS with Rebellion then.

I really do miss Wild Stomp and Free Ride, too, because those are so easy to implement, since they're contextual. I would love for Honeycomb to return, but it's really just a barrage move that's slightly boring. I'd rather have something like Dante's MvC3 super "Million Dollars" be set to Up+Up+GS for E&I, where it's just a really fancy barrage.

I loved DMC3 for offering me so many options as a Gunslinger, but at the same time it's bullsh!t, because pretty much all of the DMC games is not built for guns, other than DMC1. DMC3 was great, but you still primarily fought enemies that after a while most of the Gunslinger skillset was immune to in some way; eg, can't Wild Stomp, can't Free Ride, Twosome Time is less useful.

At least while DmC didn't emphasis guns nearly as much, they gave me much more fluid melee controls with weapons I really like.

Did Rainstorm actually do anything in DMC3 and 4? It didn't seem that useful in 3 and I never saw it used for anything other than style/ combo videos in 4.

It worked for a little while, but became obsolete later on. It's use by that point was a different way to pummel stuff below you.

Overall, it's just rough because the concept for guns was that they were a Style chain, instead of a Style booster, and the enemies, especially bosses, just weren't built around gunplay being as much fun as melee :(

Perhaps gun power bonuses. After an uninterrupted combo chain reaching a certain number of points, you could be granted a special gunslinger bonus on lower level enemies wherein all your gun special moves are super charged into finisher territory. Like Osiris' feed ability. That way, your guns don't start out too powerful, but if you earn it, you have then the option to finish enemies with your more stylish gunslinger moves. The boost drains very quickly though, so you can't lean on your gun-play forever.

That actually sounds like it could be pretty cool. Maybe like...normal shots will generate the power, and then you use Gun Special to access those specials when it's ready to go.

Yeah, would love for a "feed"-like ability for non-explosive gun actions, would definitely make gun use more enticing.

This is a fantastic idea. Because while I want some of the awesome stuff like gunslinger and wild stomp, the problem with those attacks was that they didn't chain into anything, wild stomp you'd stand still, and twosometime you'd stand in one location and just shoot all around you. DmC tried to make sure every attack had some sort of seamless transition into another attack, so I believe thats why awesome stuff like twosometime and wild stomp were removed. But your idea would be an excellent way to make it return.
