DmC 2 Angel's; Friend or Foe (Poll)

Going from what we have seen in DmC, I'd say angels could be either friend or foe.
Eva, while she was in love with Sparda, would want to fight the rest of the demons. So, she would be a good angel.
And there had to be other 'good' angels too considering what Phineas said about there being nephilim before Dante and Vergil. So that would mean that angels and demons had been putting aside their differences and hooking up long before Sparda and Eva.
However, there could also be angels who, because of the war with the demons, think nephilim are some kind of unholy creature that should never have been born. So I could see them hunting Dante just because he's part demon. I could also see them being judgemental creatures who take a dim view of humans being so easily controlled by demons.
Then there's the question of where the angels were when Mundus was taking over. Were they stopped from helping because of the effects of Limbo? Or did the angels just sit and watch, thinking like Vergil that humans were stupid children?
I think there was an interview somewhere for this game that said that angels were not all good and not what we would expect them to be like. It's a shame they did not make that clear in the game by adding some more angels.
It would also have helped if it had been explained what or why the demons and angels were at war with each other for. Maybe they were fighting to see who would have the souls of mankind? Demons because Mundus feeds from them, and the angels to save them? There's just too much speculation to draw a solid answer.

DmC is not the kind of world where angels as a whole would be good. angels are the ultimate representation of authority, DmC is a dark world with anti-authoritarian themes. angels are going to be twice as bad as demons.

Keep in mind though, those anti-authoritarian themes were because of demonic rule that was systematically oppressing humankind and using them as livestock. While angels might totally be a bunch of strict dudes with sticks up their butts, they aren't necessarily trying to eat the souls of humanity
Angels would be an authority protecting out of legitimate care (that's the job the Lord gave 'em), while demons were an authority imprisoning its livestock.

The writing is about been rebellious and making Dante look like he's in the right for been rebellious. To that end any form of authority or structure of order must be made to be in the wrong by been oppressive as ether an authoritarian or fascist oppressor or an authority that oppresses for the safety of the masses, like a cop who is overly attached to the letter of the law and forgetting the spirit and would cast punishment against the smallest infraction creating a state of terror. That is the new Dante's persona, that is what he is all about and if you don't have anything to rebel against then you're not a rebel and that's just not 'cool' now is it?

other way around, demons were authoritarian because the game is anti-authoritarian. keep in mind that Vergil intended to take over to be a benevolent ruler and that was treated as a very bad thing. the next game isn't suddenly going to say that it's okay if someone else does it. besides God and his angels as unambiguously pure good forces isn't a trope that gets used much anymore and DmC is about being modern more than anything else.

Definitely vote for angels as a foe. I like the idea of things being the opposites to what they are, for example where the good guy wears dark clothes and bad guy wears white. It would just be interested in seeing something like a beautiful angel turn out to be crooked and malice as Mundus himself.

Revenge Solves Everything..............
This is a tough call. I feel that the Angels would be split into factions/groups according to beliefs/power/ and or hierarchy.
1. Lower ranking Angels- more inclined to follow orders from their superiors, but overall can see the good in the other characters in the game, and are willing to overlook Dante's heritage, Kat being a witch, and phineas being pure demon........to an extent.
2. Arch Angels- Extreme symbol of authority and believe that Dante and Vergil are abominations and are to be put down along with every demon in their path. Also will play as major bosses in the game.
3. Fallen Angels- Also split into 2 factions
- 1 group is completely corrupt, power and hungry, and will follow Vergil an the hopes of gaining more under his rule.
- and the final group is hell bent on gaining entrance back into heaven, and believe that killing Dante and Vergil will win over the Arch Angels and grant them passage back into Heaven. A mutual enemy for the brothers, allowing for a scene or so of the brothers teaming up for a short run.
So kind of a mixed bag for me. Mostly foe.........but some friend. Either way i think that angels are something that are overdue for this series and could really breath some new life into the series. Like in season 4 of supernatural.

'Kay I say friends or allies since they are to be considered "goody-goody" like Eva was. Though knowing how Ninja Theory is by making things crazy, they might make them hate Dante (at a first glance hopefully).

I say angels should be represented as they are perceived. They believe they are perfect and their word is as law as God to humans, so obviously the fact that there's a half demon and half angel being, they find this as a smug on their godly race, so they would want to hunt Dante down while also ruling over the human world as if they were rightful owners.
Now Dante not only has to fight angels, but also Vergil's demon army, as Vergil attempts to create another war between Angels and demons, and Dante along with the human world is caught in the middle.

another war? i don't think they ever stopped being at war. Vergil said there have always been angels and demons and they have always been at war. which suggests that it is still happening just not anywhere near where the game took place.

Otherwise the entire DmC series would smack of Bayonetta rip-off.
