ROLE PLAY RULES
IMPORTANT: WRITING format. This must be in third person, past tense and in novel format: basically how a book is written. Try to keep spelling and punctuation errors to a minimum. If you’re unsure, read what the others have posted and follow their example. Text talk is banned too - Write words out in full. No abbreviations (LOL, OMG, etc) or text/sms style writing (c u l8r) allowed.
DETAILED Posts. Not many people want to read boring posts that nothing happens in, so be creative and be descriptive. You can easily write up at least ONE paragraph (four sentences at minimum). NO one-liners. For those who aren’t that hot with spelling and grammar – use Microsoft Word. Spellcheck works like magic!
DIALOGUE. We all know Dante has a rundown vocab, but don’t abuse the vulgarity. If it seems fit for your character to dish out a string of profanities when he happens to run into a wall, then go for it. Don’t let every second word be an F-bomb, please. It gets old – real quick. If anyone has something to say about bad language: *points in direction of youtube* have you seen the anime? I rest my case. Besides, bad words get dotted out by default here
STAY in character. If you play Vergil for example, you wouldn't start showing affection towards Dante. So don’t switch personality.
DON’T Play God. This basically means you can't be invincible, so if you get into a fight you can't just say your character wins because they're the best...It’s not fair on others when you fight and you definitely can't have an attack that is unstoppable because again it isn't fair. With demons, sure they can stop a few moves here and there, just make sure they aren’t amazingly powerful. Just because your character faints or something from a blow doesn’t mean they are weak.
COMPULSORY Weapons. As logic would have it, you can only carry as many weapons as your character can manage with two hands. Dante doesn’t carry his entire arsenal around with him, and neither should you. Try not to go over the top with size and strength; please limit your power when attacking other characters. And yes, you have to have at least ONE actual weapon – shooting razor beams from your eyes and using pixie dust does not constitute as weapons.
NO Power Playing. This is when you role-play as a character you don't have the right to role-play as, example: if someone reads a post saying their character jumped off a cliff because YOU made them do it. It’s unfair, irritating, and will come back to bite you in the ass - guaranteed. A character is not dead unless the person playing the role says so.
DEATHS. Killing off main characters isn’t in the actual script so if you do not desire to role-play a certain character, then please play it into the game so that your character is temporarily out of commission. Do not kill any lead characters if you get tired of RP – that role will go up for grabs for whoever else wishes to try their hand at it.
M-RATED content. You know what this comprises of. If you don’t, then you’re a minor, and the reason why promiscuous scenes will not be tolerated. There are no physical displays in the game, anime, or manga, therefore the same applies in this roleplay. If you want to get your mojo on in the RP world with another character, feel free to do so somewhere else, but not here.
CUSTOM Characters, or more commonly known as OC’s. All the characters you wanted to play taken? Want to bring in your original vampire/demon/ghoul to join in the fun? PM people already in the game before you join, so there is no head-scratching and ‘where’d you come from?’ puzzlement when you start posting. When you’ve informed the players, go here: (http://forums.devilmaycry.org/showthread.php?t=18916) and post up a profile for your OC. This is necessary so that everyone knows who you are.
RELATIVES. For someone who's playing their own character you can be related to someone from the game, but only if that character(s) give you their permission first – make use of the visitor boards or PM function to discuss this. But, please, if the role of Vergil and Dante’s long lost kick-ass sister or half-sister has already been taken, DON’T add another one. They can’t have a hundred sisters running around the place.
PERSONAL Conflicts. If you have a problem with a fellow player, take it up with them on their visitor board and work it out there. If you have any comments to make about their portrayal of their RP character, use the same method. Do not voice your opinion in the actual RP. The same goes about questions - if you're lost and don't know what's going on, take it up on the visitor boards. To the point: any messages from one player to another should be done elsewhere.
NUMBER of Characters. Each player has the option to play a max of two characters. Exceptions will be made for a third character. This only applies provided neither one of your roles crosses paths. You can’t RP with yourself, it’s just weird and wrong and crazy. Don’t hog the posts either. If two of your characters are in the same room with another RP character, use only one of them to keep the story moving. Double posts are annoying, it breaks the rhythm, and you’re depriving other RP’s their chance.
CHARACTER Development. This is inevitable. Whether they discover new abilities, or they are one of the good guys who become corrupt and join the dark forces, or they create a split personality due to the disturbing events they must survive, your character is going to grow and change as the RP goes along. Add these changes in your character's profile in the RP Character Domain. The profiles are there as reference for other players.
AUTO-HITTING forbidden. Automatically hitting, if you're in combat with someone in a roleplay and that person always attacks you and never allows you to defend, they are seen as auto-hitting. Much like God Modding, this practice is frowned upon, considered rude and will not be tolerated.
