Devil May Cry - Revenge, Revolt and Rivalry
By LordOfDarkness.
Like a black tornado, the darkness twisted its way around Nero's person, throwing him around the place. Stumbling about on the icy marble floor he remained focused and determined ever yet. "Do you give in yet?" came the cold remark of another devil, the words just as cold as the icy floor itself.
"Me, give in? Never" Nero replied, his words through gritted teeth. That's when his eyes sharpened. That's when the obvious happened. That's when he got angry.
The youngest devil hunter grasped at the black mist around him, casting it away with the devil bringer. As it hurled and twirled across the marble floor, he extended his hand and pulled off the dark sheet of cloth to reveal his enemy.
And there they were, stood toe to toe. The only thing surrounding them, their utter hatred towards each other. 'It was time for revenge', Nero thought to himself. The devil could tell this fight would be full of blood and surprises.
"Do not be so strong in your will. I have plenty of tricks up my sleeves" the devil reminded Nero. Nero smirked brightly, letting out a little laugh afterwards. "Do I amuse you? Since what happened to your beloved Kyrie" the devil replied, a bigger more maniacally laugh ensued.
Nero smashed the ground with the devil bringer, almost bringing the entire foundations of the building apart with one hit of his fist. "Impressive, I guess" the devil added to this burst of outrage.
Nero removed his fist from the floor, and stood still, his eyes just a reddish glare of sheer aggression. "Let's finish this" he cried, and the devil bringer extended once more.
..............................................................
After almost an hour of fighting and magical tricks, Nero was running weaker and weaker. The devil known to him and his associates as The Darkness, flew down from the air with his big black cape and stuck his sword through Nero's chest. Blood oozed from the fatal wound, as Nero lost consciousness, collapsing onto the stone cold floor.
"I must say, I'm rather impressed with myself. I've killed two birds with one sword" The Darkness claimed, smiling heavily at his apparent victory. The defeat of the young devil hunter boosting his confidence furthermore.
But then, to what little exterior or interior that was left placed around The Darkness, two identical faces showed up. As confident as The Darkness was, he knew it would soon be lights out for him. 'I need a way to even the odds' he exclaimed, panicking at two devil hunters arrivals. Then a voice bellowed out. That of a cocky devil hunter. Our usual suspect, Dante.
"Nero, where the hell are you? The cavalry has arrived" he shouted. After a moments pause with no reply he added, "Damn kid never listens". Dante and Vergil both closed in on each other, stopping dead in the middle of the building. "This is why I say we need to stick together. Any ideas where he is?" Dante asked his brother, who replied with "Brother, if you don't know where he is, nor will I". Dante didn't have time for Vergil getting snippy with him, so he addressed his attention to examine the environment. The place being in an already terrible state clearly gave the impression all was not well. Even if all was well, lots of blood had been shed, evidently. And to add more to that, not a single body could be found. In all of Dante's years of fighting, something didn't add up to him.
"Dante, there's your answer" came Vergil's voice, interrupting Dante's search. Nero stepped forward into the room to meet with his two devil hunter associates. "Nero, what the hell happened here?" Dante enquired. Nero mumbled something under his breathe, neither Dante nor Vergil could make out what it was.
"Clearly he's been involved in some sort of scrap. Just look at him, that much is easy to see. Lets just get him back with us Dante, I'm very tired" Vergil said, he gestured for them to go.
"No" Dante said, stopping his brother with his hand. Vergil looked extremely startled at his brother's reaction to their leave. "What is it Dante?" he asked, a manner of seriousness in his voice. "Look closer at Nero. Really close" his brother replied. Vergil turned his head and thoroughly browsed Nero's body from head to toe. He noticed all of the cuts and bruises, all of the parts of his clothes that were torn. He was almost getting bothered at Dante's request, since he could see nothing wrong. But then when it came to his neck, he noticed that Nero wasn't wearing his necklace. That necklace meant everything to Nero, and he would never take it off, not ever.
"Nice work Dante" Vergil said, actually praising Dante for once. Dante nodded and gave a look as if he knew he was always right, that Vergil just ignored with a subtle smirk.
Drawing their swords, they raised and pointed them directly at Nero's head. "Ah, guys, come on! Can't we all just get along?" The Darkness laughed, as he hurtled Nero's lifeless body towards Dante and Vergil. "How did he do that?" Vergil wondered. "No time for questions, let's fight" Dante replied, as he clashed swords with Nero for the first time in ages.
Surely the upper-hand would be in the twins favour. Outnumbering The Darkness, and with years of expertise between them. This would be over within minutes.
.............................................................
Much to their surprise and despair, they had all been battling for half an hour, and The Darkness had not shown his true form not once. "This is ridiculous. Are we becoming soft or something?" Dante questioned to his brother. "No, we're just not focusing properly. This thing killed a friend of ours. Two friends. And we can't let it kill us either" Vergil said, the two both got their heads together once more, returning ever more determined to finish the fight.
Vergil finally made a few successful blows to Nero's already lifeless body, slicing it with Yamato. As the cuts were applied, The Darkness inside, withered and cried. The screech it made was agonisingly painful on the ears. Vergil and Dante held their hands against their ears, as The Darkness tore away from its failed disguise and erupted like a boiling hot volcano, soaring towards the two. It struck Vergil repeatedly with the Red Queen, giving him several nasty cuts. This attack was made so easy, since Vergil had still been covering his ears from the loud screech the devil had made. Dante removed his hands from the side of his head, and noticed these strikes and blows being made to his brother. "No!" he cried, with what exhausted breathe he had left in him. Had this one devil really killed so many of his loved ones already? Was it all over so quickly and so easily?
"ARGH, STAY THERE YOU BASTARD!!!" Dante screamed at the top of his voice. It felt like the anger inside of him was exploding, he was driving himself insane with torment. Rarely did he use profanities towards his opponents, but after witnessing what he thought was his brother's death, he unleashed a barrel of swear words right at the devil before him.
"Tell me who you are" Dante demanded, he raised Ebony and Ivory in an attempt to threaten The Darkness. "Don't be so pathetic. Your magic bullets will do nothing but go through me. Your wasting your time" the devil answered, not giving in to Dante's question.
They battled long and hard, just the two of them now. Dante dealing a few blows to The Darkness, and vice versa. The two seemed to be right at each other's necks, like vampires and werewolves. The battle was seemingly becoming a tie. "Maybe I did underestimate Sparda's power after all" The Darkness thought for a second. Just after that statement, he quickly vanished into the air around Dante and returned a split second later to punch Dante in the chest. Dante staggered backwards, striking up into the air as The Darkness flew across it. As the sword met nothing but cold air, the Darkness reappeared behind Dante and held Red Queen to his neck. "How the mighty sons of Sparda have fallen. And all so easily. Thank you for coming here tonight and giving me the opportunity I have been craving for ages now. To rid this planet of any trace of your wretched father. And it was all thanks to your younger friend, I couldn't of done it without him" The Darkness stated. The moment he had been waiting for was finally here, he was about to decapitate the legendary devil hunter Dante. The sheer excellency and joy of it was so sweet and he succumbed to it, letting every inch of delight fill up his dark body and pound into his twisted evil heart of blackness.
..............................................................
The very next second, The Darkness was gone. He was dead. Killed on the very spot he was about to claim his greatest victory on. Dante lowered his head a little in shame, and sighed with relief. It was finally over.
"You didn't think I would of given up that easily, did you?" Vergil said, smiling at the revenge they had exacted.
"No, not you brother" Dante replied, smiling at the very same thing. Although a little battered and cut, Vergil retrieved Yamato from a stone pillar it had flown into. "From now on, we always work together" Vergil said, placing out his hand. Dante was overwhelmed, as he placed his out also. As they shook hands, they knew that their long rivalry was finally over. Brought back together by emotions they had failed to show for so long. Through friendship and family, they knew they would always triumph.
"Speaking of working together" Dante said, he ran over to the spot Nero was lying in. "Lets fix this kid up" Vergil said, and Dante nodded in agreement. "There's still hope" they both said in unison, combining the perfect amulet together and placing it around Nero's neck. Through their cuts, they let their blood pour into Nero's open wound. The wound was sealed shut, and Dante pumped away at Nero's chest, as Vergil checked for a pulse. Once one was found, Nero's eyes slowly opened up. The dark sky now turning to dawn, as some light hurt his vision. Nero made a feeble sound, still very weak from the events that had just happened. "Rest Nero. Rest" Dante said, shutting Nero's eyelids.
He turned back to the terrible scene. Bits of rubble and blood still scattered everywhere, reminding them of the horrible battle they had all come across.
With whatever positivity he had left, Dante mustered up a sentence "I love what you did. Throwing Yamato like that". They looked down at the devil they had just beheaded. "Ironic he was about to do the same thing to you. I couldn't let that happen" Vergil said.
"Yeah, you'd miss this pretty face of mine too much" Dante joked, his brother laughed. "You know, we never managed to say one of our catchphrases" Dante said, turning to face his brother. "Yeah, you're right. What did you have in mind?" Vergil replied, but they both were thinking the same thing.
"JACKPOT!".
The End.
