One year before the events of Devil May Cry 4...
Credo was one of the respected members of the Order of the Sword, and has been promoted to Supreme General due to his great sword skills, and unwavering loyalty to the Order. Someday, he took a round with a group of knights at Mitis Forest, and discovered something that was proved vital to Agnus's research and in the future.
One day at Mitis Forest...
Credo with his group of knights took a round at Mitis Forest to find any suspicious activities. Suddenly, a bright purple light emitted from a place nearby to Credo's position.
"What is that light? You two, check where is the place that light comes from." ordered Credo.
"Yes, sir." said by the two knights.
The two knights went to the place where the light emitted. After a few minutes, they cam back and reported to Credo.
"My lord! You have to come and take a look!" said by one of the two knights.
Without wasting time, Credo and the knights went to the place, and discovered something.
A damaged, dark glowing broadsword and a piece of black armour was on the ground, with a small crater under it.
"What is that sword? And that metal..." said Credo.
Credo then tried to pick both items, and suddenly, a light emitted from the broadsword, and transformed it into a broken katana, with several pieces.
"This is beyond my knowledge. Bring this to Agnus. He will know what to do with these unknown pieces." said Credo.
"Yes, sir." said by the knights.
The knights brought back the pieces of the katana as well as the armour to Agnus's research lab, and Agnus looks stunned with the discovery. The knights left the items on Agnus's table, and left, leaving only Credo and Agnus in the lab.
"This i-i-i-is..." said Agnus.
"You know what is this, Agnus?" asked Credo.
Agnus touched the pieces of the katana, and examined it for a while.
"This is... Y-Y-Y-Yamato." said Agnus.
"Yamato?" asked Credo.
"One of the legendary Devil Arms that the Legendary Dark Knight Sparda used. I d-d-d-did not expect it to find it here!" said Agnus.
"I see. Can we use it for the 'plan'?"
"Use it? Hahaha! Credo... We can use this to do many things! We c-c-c-can use it to open the Hellgates, and unleash demons to this world!"
"...But it is broken. Can you fix it?"
"That i-i-i-is impossible. There is no way to fix this powerful Devil Arms unless a descendant of S-S-S-Sparda touches it."

Agnus took a round examining the pieces of Yamato, and the piece of armour as well.
"The only wielder of Yamato I know is Vergil. Dante is d-d-d-definitely not the sword's user." said Agnus.
"What makes you said that?" asked Credo.
"I c-c-c-checked the rumours, that one of the Sons of Sparda is e-e-e-extremely rebellious, while the other one is not. One is known for his great devil hunting skills, and one is known for his expertise of sword and the quest of power."
"I take it that Vergil is the one with the quest of power?"
"D-D-D-Definitely. This sword is the proof."
"Then what is this piece of metal?"
Agnus examined the piece of armour again.
"It seems to be a p-p-p-piece of armour. It seems to be radiating with d-d-d-demonic energy."
Agnus touched the armour again, and suddenly, a powerful demonic energy surge into a set of empty armour nearby, animating it alive.
Credo and Agnus were shocked, as that armour tried to attack them. Credo quickly drew his sword and smashed it to pieces.
"That is dangerous... What did that piece do?" asked Credo.
Agnus was laughing wickedly.
"Hahahahaha! This is it! Our saving grace! We can use it create countless artificial demons to serve our cause!" said Agnus.
"..." Credo said nothing.
"We must tell His Holiness. He will be extremely pleased with t-t-t-this discovery!"
"Indeed. Let's go."
Both of them went to report to Sanctus for the discovery, and Sanctus was pleased with the discovery. Agnus began creating countless artificial demons using the piece of armour, giving birth to Bianco Angelos and Alto Angelos. Yamato is kept in the center of Agnus's lab, where he was still figuring out on how to fix it. Meanwhile, the pieces radiating to someone at Fortuna City. Someone who has the blood of Sparda. Someone who will repair the Yamato to it's original and unbroken state.
