Definition of a true fan

Look, I pretty much put my foot in my mouth back in the insults thread and this is me better explaining myself.

pretty much i said that a tru dmc fan was someone who liked the old story and games which i meant and that you dont have to like the reboot which i meant.

what i forgot to say was that you have to be willing to give either of them a chance to win you over to be considered a true fan.

I'm not saying you have to like the reboot or like the old series but to actually play it and see if you end up liking it.

Basically im asking you to give it a shot. A true fan would have given either a chance at willing them over before decrying it.

Even if you played either DmC or the hd collection and still hated it than that it is fine as you gave it a chance and it didn't live up to your expectations.

Nothing really to say, myself. A fan is a fan, it is an abstract, illogican aspect of human behaiviour. There is no such thing as a 'true fan,' not footbal, not soccer, not anime, and not DMC true fans just degrees of enjoymen in relation to other things.

I think the more apropriate way of phracing it is fans of the true DMC?

A fan is a fan. There is no level.I will forever be a fan of DMC no matter what even though the game will probably be shelved in the future.

Z218, I understand what you're saying: By your definition, a real fan of DMC has faith in the directors and producers know what they're doing.
And I agree with you, even though I wasn't really interested in the series at all until six months after DmC was announced; so I can't really call myself a true fan.
So this rant is not in any way directed at you or anyone on this forum. Just at jerks who use that term just to feel better about themselves.

According to esteemed public forums like youtube and facebook:
A true fan is someone who...
doesn't... act like... a sheep?

So a true fan is a human then? That narrows it down!

Furthermore, a true fan doesn't buy a game just because it has "Devil May Cry" on it.

Congrats, True Fan in Shining Armor. While this game isn't trying to alienate you (I'm sorry if it has, and I hope that changes, really) it's made to reach out to new customers.

In the same way that Devil May Cry 4 was. While the story sucked, that game sold very well.

By spouting all this "true fan vs. sheep" nonsense, these guys are successfully reciting one of the oldest, stupidest messages video game fandom has to offer:

"They're bad because they're different, and we're better than them."

We have discussed this again and again. There is no true fan. The term was first thought by a group of people who considered themselves and their opinions about that something they were fans of, superior, more well-informed and more "right".

However, opinions, I'll say again, are individualistic. Everyone has one. All of them are relevant. If someone does not accept the opinion of someone else then he/she is just close-minded. I understand disagreeing with it - it is natural because we all have our own opinions and can't always agree - but thinking that it's wrong and stuff like that only degrades the person who does that.

Anyway it is the 2nd time a thread like that has appeared. And I hope this 2nd time it will go better than the last.

Apparently according to the idiots and 14 year olds over at urban dictionary, a true fan is someone who is blindly loyal. and I actually have to agree with them this time, a "true fan" is a term butthurt fanboys use to feel better,

A follower is a follower, take it or leave it, I also have one last thing to add

True Fan: 1. A fan that is true (not false), All fans of anything
2. The fans who agree with the person using the term.
3. A person who enjoys using redundant meaningless phrases as special titles and then arguing with each other over who is worthy of that title.

I believe that covers all common definitions.

There's no such thing. As Tony said, this has been discussed before. A true fan of DMC to me would be a person who enjoys anything and I mean ANYTHING DMC related. The games, the anime, the soundtrack, posters, and for the girls, body pillows, Yaoi fan art, and...Whatever the hell this is.

A true fan is just some people who think they know everything about DMC and are "Gods" at DMC, when actually, the true "Gods" of DMC are the creators of the games and characters themselves. So no; true fans don't exsist.

As stated above, there is no such thing as a "true fan". You're either going to like the game, or you're not. Having someone calling themselves a "true fan" makes it sound like you're some obessed lackey in some cult. I'm sorry if it sounds harsh, but this really the only example I came up with after waking up

True fan? Heh, no... There's no such thing as a true fan. Only those who perceive themselves as such. If you like the game, then you're a fan. Just a fan. No such thing as a true fan. If you don't like it, then you are not a fan.
