Dead Space 2 PC to get disability support

Dead Space 2 is to get a new update to address accessibility problems for disabled gamers, Electronic Arts has announced, after a petition from gamers.

The petition began at Overclockers' forums after one user with cerebral palsy, gareth170, found himself unable to reconfigure the controls fully to suit his needs.

Shortly afterwards the petition was linked to an on-going campaign run by quadriplegic comedian Chuck Bittner, reaching more than 25,000 signatures.

Gareth then got a response from Visceral Games Australia, who were responsible for the PC port of Dead Space 2, promising to try and include full control binding options in the next patch. Dead Space 2 executive producer Steve Papoutsis then backed this up and promised the patch would be on the way shortly.

'The Dead Space 2 team is aware of the issue that disabled players are having with Dead Space 2 PC,' said Papoutsis in a comment to Joystiq. 'In fact a number of folks on our team are so passionate about getting this fix done that they are currently working hard to allow players to re-map key bindings to the mouse which should help disabled players enjoy the game.'

The patch is expected to arrive imminently, but you can read our Dead Space 2 review while you wait. Let us know your thoughts in the forums.

One more developer that pays attention to gamer's complaint. I hope that other developers will take this into account.
