Dead Rising vs DmC, a battle of protagonist.

Mrrandomlulz here. I thought about how Capcom is designing this game to appeal more to Western audiences and it all came down to this, they already have a series that does that, Dead Rising. So now I am going to make a comparison on how Dead Rising appeals to the western audience compared to DmC.

The protagonist

We all know the crap being said about this games protagonist, and while I disagree with most of it. I will say, this protagonist is rather annoying to me.

Dante DmC
Here is where he is annoying, when we first saw this character, he supposedly known what these demons were his whole life, Let me state that Old Dante had most of the problems this new one does, but he made up for it in bad assery.

First, the whole "Smoking is cool" thing from the first trailer really bothered me, Ninja Theory should've known better than that, and so should've Capcom. Another thing that bothers me is the jacket, I have that same jacket, but that is the kind usually found at Abercrombie and Fitch stores, the kind of people who buy Abercrombie and Fitch are the kind I try to avoid at all cost. Plus the whole look of his guns didn't cut it for me either, while they looked badass as all hell, that was the problem. They looked custom designed for some kind of chosen one, and, despite loving the Zelda series AND owning a Link costume, I hate playing as a chosen one. but it is still kind of too early to judge this character
Frank West
Frank West was the very definition of badass, we saw character development, we saw violence, we saw everything necessary for an awesome protagonist, and the best part? He was a normal guy.
FrankWest.jpg

Frank West was a normal photojournalist (despite being more bad ass than most soldiers, because he's covered wars y'know) unknowingly going into a living hell. Through the course of the game, he sees innocent people die before his eyes and his inner badassery unlocks, causing his goal to go from publicity, to uncovering the truth and making it out alive.
As I stated earlier, Frank is no more than a normal guy, at the beginning of the game he is much like the gamer, a bit on the chubby side, not very experienced, and doesn't really care for other people. As the game progresses alot of this changes, he is still a normal guy, but he is a badass, who is able to beat military in fist fights, DISEMBOWEL ZOMBIES WITH HIS BARE HAND, TAKE DOWN TANKS USING MOUNTED MACHINE GUN TURRETS. and a crap load more. Proving that there is a badass within all of us. That appeals to Westerns, Good job Keji

I never thought Dead Rising was any good. I also don't care for zombies. There are zombies everywhere these days and too many games are about zombies, so I say DmC all the way.

Yes, this may be true, but Dead Rising STARTED the cliche, so therefore it cannot be counted in the cliche, almost every "zombie killing" game is just another Dead Rising wanna be. DmC is just Devil May Cry with a little punk for a main character, I mean for god sakes, he is wearing Abercrombie and Fitch style clothes, nothing screams out Deuchebag more than Abercrombie Fitch

Personal opinion is personal. I still choose DmC over Dead Rising.

I highlighted the part where I thought this discussion to be pointless.

Call it pointless all you want, but when The Situation from Jersey shore wears your clothing line, you know that there is a problem with it

Back on topic,

We also have to take into account that it was a New IP with Dead Rising, so they appealing to western audiences and at the same time weren't ****ing off any fanbases.

Here's a question for you then: Why make a thread like this? There isn't any room for discussion here, because your mind is already made up. This thread is just to look down on the new Devil May Cry and the new Dante and you trying to uplift your love for Dead Rising. That's why this thread is pointless.

Advice. A VS thread is fine as long as you get along nicely. As Angelo Credo said, you've been fairly warned. :)

Not really, it is to compare 2 games Capcom made in order to appeal to western communities, yes my mind is set on Dead Rising, but other people may try to convince me otherwise, and I will try to convince other people otherwise about there opinion. But mainly this is just a comparison of the 2 different approaches.

and if this gets out of hand I will try to remember to tell a staff member to lock it

Yeah, because that is clearly A&F's fault.... -.-?

Why do you need to compare it then? We have two characters, that have nothing in common, that are protagonist of two franchises that have nothing in common and are generally as different to each other as possible.
Funny though, if you'd put classic Dante in that comparison instead of the revamp, you'd have the same result following your logic.

Well, my opinion is as follows: I don't like Dead Rising or Frank West, I don't enjoy the games and I don't care if it is one of the original games to have zombies in them, I do not care for zombies or games about zombies. I think Frank West is a joke of a character and I don't find him the least bad@ss or cool. The games and the protagonist bores me.
And let me tell you this now: Nothing you say can change my opinion of that and I am not going to try and change your opinion either, because I respect your opinion, no matter how much you try and troll me or other people to do otherwise (which is your rep around these parts, cowboy).

I like Devil May Cry, I like demons, angels and hybrids, I like big swords and other fantasy weapons, I like Dante, I like his looks and I am one of the very few who likes that he was smoking in the first trailer. Therefore I choose DmC and I hope you will respect that choice and my opinion on this matter. If not, then that's your problem, sweety. ^^

I respect your opinion. As a brony, I really have learned to tolerate others opinions, whether we agree or not.

I like Frank West, but I hate zombies now. EVERYTHING has to be Zombies now! One of my most wanting to play games, Yakuza, has zombies now! Damn! WTF!?

I'll choose new Dante because new Dante still looks like Izaya!
normal_Izaya_Orihara.png

And as long as he does look like Izaya, I will still prefer him over bad ass zombie photographer, Frank West...

Who covered wars...

Y'know.

This dante need a little longer hair to become really like izaya. That's right a little longer hair........
