Dante's swordsmanship

DragonMaster2010

Don't Let the Fall of America be Your Fall
I want to really know how to describe Dante's fighting style with a sword. Mostly because it's inspired me to write my character's swordsmanship from Dante's.

I usually call it a sort of mix between swinging a bat and just wide swings.

But I also like the way he fights with rebellion. It's not refined but asthetically rough around the edges. Like the oung punk he is, his sword style reflects that by the small movements he makes while swinging his sword. Especially that little stumble at the end of his normal swing at the end.
Ask for his stinger and trillion stab, I like to think those were also self taught. Like he's in the back of his trailer or at a nearby park within Limbo practicing these moves. The Drive could be from him watching anime one day and thinking :"I could SO do that."
And aerial combat is again a spur of the moment along with the roulette move.

Wild, aggressive, raw. Take your pick, he puts all his weight into every swing, which is why he stumbles to varying degrees at the end of strikes.

As it stands, Dante never really had a "style" like Vergil did with his iaido, he just takes a weapon, finds its sweet spot, and then goes to town with that in mind. His attacks are...purposeful, even if not graceful.

As a small aside - it's rather tiring when people who make helpful videos for DmC still feel the need to comment on how much depth or whatever they think it has compared the classics. Like, who the hell cares? That's not what I came to the video for :/

Loved the combat animations. The best combat animation in the series alongside Nero's animations from DMC4. Nero's are great because he has a lot of skill with the Red Queen, which is a great weapon with great animation.

DMC4 Dante's move animations were obviously lifted from DMC3 and changed a bit with particle effects. They looked liked PS2 animations. Was not impressed with the animation, it looks stale and lacks variety. Nero's were much better.

Only problem with DmC was not enough of those animations, a few more moves would have made a big difference to me.

I loved that they put much thought into his combat movements.

I just wish there were more animations of him standing still. Dante just has this animation of looking around and occasionally bringing his hand to his neck.
