Especially this bit:
TGL: So what do you make of the new revised Ninja-Theory DMC?
RL: With regards to the new one, I don’t have any part in it, I haven’t been asked and I do believe that’s it probably too late in the game for me to come on board even if they did ask me to voice or do any motion capture or anything like that. I believe that it’s a whole other different take on the character and casting and everything else just like 3. I’m not involved so I can’t say much but because I was involved in 3 and 4 I do know the history and that 3 was a reboot of the series. The new game is that as well. It may be a little more extreme or maybe not. I think people at the time when 3 came out were afraid of the changes and it proved to work in the end. What I would say about the new one is that maybe history might repeat itself.

Why did the series need ANOTHER reboot.
I loved DMC3, but I didn't know that it was EVER a reboot.

He's not the new Dante though... something that I'm not surprised to hear.
He does say to be patient with NT... but as they say, "the proof is in the pudding"

Yeah, 3 not really qualifying for a reboot methinks. If it was, then I'd be guessing Dante would have been created physically different, instead of exactly the same except with a Bruce Lee 'do... or the world and the context of the adventure would have been different, and the family history would have been different... but instead we just have a younger, brasher Dante, fitting snugly within all the canon. Not a reboot at all.

This new one though, if Dante's family history is being basically reconned/rewritten, his appearance is very different, no other significant characters are referenced from the other games and the world is different, can easily be called a reboot. Or preboot. Whichever.

dmc3 was a prequel/reboot/retcon.. i guess. It took many aspects of dmc 1&2's game mechanics, and made everything seemless and fluid. which gave every game that came after it a weapon to toggle. i'm looking forward to this new DmC because there will be nothing on the shelves that come close to it. especially asuras wrath...which looks f****N epic btw

Funny how he compared the situation around 3 with that of this new DmC which IMO there is no comparision at all.

There are so many things different about what happened with DMC3 and what is happening now.

Didn't Capcom say the novels weren't canon anyway? Or was that the manga?
I don't think anyone considers the novels canon, because they spring a few contradictions... although the manga doesn't contradict anything from the games; I guess Suguro Chayamachi played it safe and kept the manga from deviating too far from what we know. Although it's still not canon really.

I have heard that the anime is declared officially canon, but... all of these are spin off projects. The only thing I can ever consider as properly canon is the original games series. Members of CAPCOM can say whatever they want, one even claims that Nero is Vergil's son, etc. but we still can't take that for granted until we see it in a game, right?

I have no idea since i didnt read either. i think the second novel could fit pretty well since there is a huge gap between 1 and 2. First one is hard to reconcile with 3 and the since Dante is 25 in it while he is 19 in 3. I dont think capcom cares and will change their minds depending on the writer.

I'm just going to quote to put across my views:

I think people at the time when 3 came out were afraid of the changes and it proved to work in the end. What I would say about the new one is that maybe history might repeat itself.

I had played the first DMC. I guess I didn’t know it had such a cult following at that stage. I didn’t really realise until after we had done the capture and the first trailer came out. It was then that I started to get a lot of hate mail from fans telling me that I wasn’t Dante and that the voice was different and I wasn’t the right character anymore. It was only then that I realised that WOW there’s a huge fan base for this. From the DMC 3 trailer that the fans saw at this time, they were not happy with the change and Dante’s new look. I would definitely say that there were more negative emails and negative posts about it on blogs and stuff. But then the game came out and everybody loved it.
Is it just me or does the fanbase have a way of repeating itself? o_O

I suppose I’m not that much of a fan of the direction it is going but also that’s the feeling a lot of Devil May Cry 1 fans had going into Devil May Cry 3.

But looking back, who knows? This could be something very different and revolutionary.

^_^
Oh. And I wub Reuben! X3

wait.....DMC3 was a reboot o.o.......wait, im sorry, wat? did i misread tht? I am utterly confused......i thought it was just another DMC game not a....reboot @.@ i was believing the lie......THE WORLD MAKES NO SENSE TO ME ANYMORE !!! D: *has dramtic moment*

I think he meant in the sense of it being a new take on the franchise and it being different than before etc. he probably mixed up the terms tho since they are easy to confuse.
Its more of a revamp than a reboot.
