This will be where I will be putting up one-shot fan fics of all sorts, and even some sketches if I get around to them. Here is an Inuyasha fan fic, the paring is kagome/kouga. It's a Romance/Angst theme. (By the way...I don't own Inuyasha, wishful thinking!)

It's not one of my better written fan fics, I just wanted to write something and here it is. Enjoy!

This could’ve been…

Kagome dug the edge of her knife further into the bone, slowly pulling it back. She repeated the motion a few times, adding more details to her carving. The Miko pulled it back to observe her masterpiece-a wolf howling to the moon. It had taken her awhile to get it right, but now it was completed. Kagome happily smiled as she stowed it away in a pouch, tying it to her hakama. The Miko let out a strained gasp as she stood up. ‘I’m not as young as I used to be’ Kagome sadly thought.

It has been fifty-six years since the defeat of Naraku and the disappearance of the Shikon No Tama. She and Inuyasha have lived a fairly peaceful life, save for a few arguments here and there. Even though all those years have passed, it still seemed as though they happened yesterday. A stern, but worried voice broke her out of her memories.

“Kagome, you shouldn’t be walking around!” Inuyasha said as he pushed aside the bamboo curtain, his amber eyes softening as he gazed upon his lover.

“I’m totally helpless!” Kagome huffed, slowly making it towards the Hanyou’s side. “Where are Saki and Taro?” She asked.

“Out helping the villagers,” the hanyou replied.

“I see,” Kagome nodded. “Inuyasha, I have a favour to ask you…” she whispered softly.
Inuyasha’s ears twitched as he looked down at her.

“What is it?” He asked roughly.

“I would like you to take me to see Kouga.” The Miko said.

“Why do you want to see that flea bag?” The hanyou growled, clearly not approving of his mates request. Kagome wanted to yell at him but decided against it, she needed to save her breath.

“Please, Inuyasha.” She quietly pleaded.

“Fine, but I’m not doing this again.” Inuyasha ground out, turning his back to her. “Get on my back,” The Miko obliged and rested her head on his shoulder as he effortlessly picked her up. ‘There won’t be a next time anyways’ Kagome wanted to say but couldn’t dare hurt Inuyasha more than he already is. He may not show it but his eyes tell a different story, he knows Kagome’s time is slowly coming to a close.

The duo travelled into the heart of the mountains where the core of the Wolf Tribes resided, arriving at their destination at nightfall. Two Wolf Demon guards smelled their presence and jumped down from their lookout, spears raised at the intruders that dared trespass on their land.

“Leave this land, you are not welcomed here!” One of them growled ferociously.

“I’m here to see your Chief, Kouga.” Kagome said in a commanding voice.

“What business do you have with him?” The other Wolf Demon narrowed his eyes at the hanyou and Miko.

“Tell him an old friend wishes to speak with him one last time.” Kagome whispered quietly.

“Kagome-Chan?” One asked softly, the Miko nodded. “Kagome-Chan!” Both the Wolf Demons exclaimed in unison. “Do you remember us?” They asked as they stepped out of the shadows, revealing one with a Mohawk and the other with a black streak of hair sandwiched between two grey ones.

“Ginta, Hakkaku,” Kagome smiled, they have done so much for them back the day.

“She does remember us!” Ginta said happily. “I’ll go get Kouga, wait here.” He quickly dashed away.

“How have you been doing Nee-san?” Hakkaku asked; it has been years since everyone has last seen her.

“Oh this and that,” She softly laughed as she slowly got off of Inuyasha’s back. “How about Ginta and yourself?”

“We’ve been busy since Kouga became Chief of the Tribes, you wouldn’t believe all the running around we have to do!” Hakkaku sighed, Kagome couldn’t help but giggle. They were always chasing after Kouga, hardly catching a break. Now it seems they still don’t get one.

“Well, well, well. What do we have here?” A cocky voice said as the figure jumped down to meet them. “It’s been while mutt-face.”

Inuyasha flared his nostrils at the Wolf. “What ever flea bag,” he retorted. “I’ll be back for you in a bit Kagome; I can’t stand the smell of Wolf any longer.” With that he dashed away into the nearby forest, leaving Kagome alone with the two wolves.

“Let’s go somewhere a bit more private,” Kouga picked the Miko up bridal style and took her to a cliff peak overlooking a small waterfall.

“It’s beautiful,” Kagome said in awe, the moon was at its peak, casting an ethereal glow on everything in contact with its moonlight.

“Yeah,” The Wolf Chief agreed. “What brings you here to the heart of the mountains? It’s quite the trip.” Kouga asked.

I wanted to see you…talk to you one last time.” Kagome replied honestly, staring out into the distance.

“Kagome…” Kouga whispered, touched that she would travel here as her final wish.

“You know,” The Miko began. “At the time when I came back through the well to be with Inuyasha, I was overjoyed.” She said with a twinkle in her eyes. “But now, I wish I didn’t after all…” Kagome continued to look out into the distance, not once looking at the Wolf Demon. “He’s silently suffering Kouga; I can see it every waking moment.” Kagome turned her gaze to him, tears starting to run down her cheeks.

The wolf Chief couldn’t help but be swallowed up into her eyes; they were filled with a deep sea of sadness and regret. He had no words of comfort for the woman standing before him, as she bared her soul for him to see. Kouga took a few steps forward and brought the broken Miko into a comforting embrace.

“As much as I hate to say it,” Kouga started. “I can understand a bit of the pain the mutt is going through.” He admitted. Even though he is married to Ayame, that doesn't mean his feelings for Kagome died.

“I’m hurting him the most unintentionally,” Kagome buried her face in Kouga’s shoulder pelt. “I never want to hurt anyone…” She started to sob. “I didn’t want to put him through this, then again…it was both our choice.” Kagome hugged the Wolf Demon harder, trying to keep her emotions from breaking through.

“Kagome…” Kouga softly said, stroking her hair in an attempt to calm her down.

“This could’ve been us, if I turned Inuyasha away but you’d be suffering in his place instead…I don’t think be able to take it.” The Miko somberly said. “I would be grieving for you, because I would have left a black void where your heart used to be. Wolves mate for life, and what kind of life would you have if I were to pass on?”

Kouga was beyond speechless; she had actually considered his feelings? ”You’ve actually thought about us being together?” The Wolf Chief couldn’t believe his ears.

“A long time ago,” Kagome looked up at Kouga, smiling brightly at him. “It sounds silly but it was like picking a poison, one was going be hurt either way…” The Miko trailed off. “I just decided in the end it couldn’t be you.” Kagome whispered.

She really did love me and because of that, she kept rejecting me in order to protect me Kouga was filled with admiration for the woman in his arms. He inhaled her scent, his nose was assaulted with Sakura blossoms and purification salts, but there was a lingering taste of death laced in between. Time was running out for Kagome, her spirit is hanging on the balance between life and the otherworld.

“I have brought you a gift,” Kagome pulled away from the embrace, pulling out the carving from her pouch. “I hope this is enough to symbolize that even when my body has passed, I will still always be with you.”

Kouga took the carving of the wolf with open arms, examining every detail on the bone carving. “Did you make this?” The Wolf Chief asked, flabbergasted. Kagome smiled as she nodded at him.

“It took me awhile to get it right, I’m glad you like it.” The Miko said.

“I will treasure it forever Kagome,” Kouga brought her into tight embrace.

“I’m afraid our time together must come to end,” She sadly said, pulling away from Kouga.

“I know,” He didn’t want this experience to end; she finally admitted her love for him, but there was nothing else he could do for her. He picked her up once again and took her back to the entrance were Inuyasha was patiently waiting. He set her down and she slowly walked towards the Hanyou. “Take care Kagome, don’t let that mutt push you around too much!” Kouga playfully grinned. Inuyasha wanted to say his piece to the wolf but kept his mouth shut.

“Farewell, Kouga.” Kagome whispered as she climbed onto her mates back and disappeared into the forest.

Don’t forget, that even though time passes on, I will always be with you’ Kouga glanced down at the carving Kagome gave him. Thank you, Kagome. You will never be forgotten… He turned around and jumped onto a nearby cliff, howling to the moon.
