Developer confirms Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow sequel
Spanish developer MercurySteam appears to have confirmed that work on a sequel to Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow has already begun, although there's no official word yet from Konami.
We were pretty impressed by the long deserved series reboot in our review, but it'll be a good few weeks yet until its clear how well the game's done at retail (it entered at number six in the all formats charts this week and the Xbox 360 version peaked at number 11 in the individual formats chart).
The news of the sequel comes from the game's composer Oscar Araujo, speaking on Spanish radio. According to website Eurogamer he commented that, 'If you liked the first [game], hope that the second is even more spectacular.'
That doesn't sound particularly definitive to us, but that seems to be the way it's been taken by Spanish listeners. Konami has created multiple sequels to far less successful games before, so at least one follow-up was probably always a given.
Konami and MercurySteam seem to have gotten on very well since beginning their collaboration and they are known to be working on at least one new game together - the smart money would now be on a Lords Of Shadow sequel.
Whether Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima will be maintaining his advisory role in any follow-up is unknown.
