Capcom? Big thing in September, or damp squib?

I knew Europe had a gameshow, but i couldn't think when it was or what it was called.

Found this:
Capcom no-show for Gamescom
Gamescom is meant to be the European equivalent of E3, but now Capcom has joined fellow Japanese publisher Sega in saying they will not be attending.

Held in Cologne, Germany the event does have the back of the majority of other publishers - including Nintendo, Electronic Arts, Activision Blizzard, Microsoft and Sony. Unlike E3 the expo is open to the public, as well as just the press.

However, Capcom have said they 'cannot justify' attending as they only have two games due out in the next few months and one of them, Dead Rising 2, is likely to be denied a German release because of its violence. The other one is Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes, which even they admit isn't worth turning up for on its own.

Sega also pulled out of the event a few weeks ago, but only offered up unspecified 'commercial reasons' for their absence. At the time this was believed to be a euphemism for trying to save money.

Although far fewer games are announced at Gamescom than E3 it is still the second most important trade show in the West, and the only significant one in Europe. Capcom's failure to attend is particularly odd as they haven't announced any new games for ages - despite a teaser trailer for the mysterious Mega Man Universe and rumours of Capcom Vs. Namco.

Even at E3 some were suggesting that Japanese publishers were purposefully holding back new game announcements for the Tokyo Games Show in September. Although once almost on a par with E3 the Tokyo Game Show has decreased in importance over the last five years, to near irrelevance in the last few.

EDIT: DMC5 revelation in September anyone?

I'm almost afraid to get my hopes up again. But even as I type that I know I will anyways when the TGS rolls around.

Seeing Capcom's high sales of their main game releases (Street Fighter IV, Devil May Cry 4, Resident Evil 5), there are high chances that Devil May Cry 5 will eventually be developed. However, this rumour has disappointed me the most:

Rumor: Capcom's two-year schedule doesn't include Devil May Cry 5

In short, we may not play DMC5 until 2012. Capcom is not in their right minds lately, in my opinion.

Good thread.
