Bayonetta 2 not cancelled hints creator
The Internet frenzy over whether Bayonetta 2 has or hasn't been cancelled - or even whether it exists at all - has taken another turn with Hideki Kamiya hinting at a new game reveal next week.
We've been trying to avoid writing this story up all day for the simple fact that is seems to be based on nothing but hot air. Neither publisher Sega nor developer PlatinumGames has ever announced a sequel to 2009's cult classic Bayonetta, but already stories about it being cancelled are getting out of hand.
The rumours began on website
Spong which claimed that work on Bayonetta 2 had been stopped. This after Sega posted disastrous financial results that led almost instantly to a series of fairly vicious cutbacks, with the publisher announcing that in the future it will concentrate on its core franchises such as Sonic, Football Manager, and Total War.
Allegedly Bayonetta 2 was to have featured a new character in the form of a 'member of the US military' but the original story isn't clear on whether the game had actually started development or whether it was only in pre-production.
Although Spong is not necessarily known for its reliability the rumours quickly enraged fans of the game, who immediately starting barracking
Kamiya on Twitter.
He got very upset about it all tweeting, 'I have had it' and 'I'm not Sega man. Ask Sega.' (Sega, unsurprisingly have only offered 'no comment'.)

Atsushi Inaba then got involved, tweeting the obviously fake image above dodged up with leftover artwork from both the original Bayonetta and Vanquish.
'We've heard all the rumours on the net. What do you guys think? Too bad it got cancelled, huh?' tweeted Inaba.
After this Kamiya then tweeted the words, 'Next week's game magazines...' implying some sort of new reveal.
On the face of it this seems like good news and a hint that Bayonetta 2 hasn't been cancelled after all. Except that Kamiya is always tweeting stuff like this as a 'joke' and we suspect it's almost certainly a fake.
Apart from anything we'd be more worried about PlatinumGames' Anarchy Reigns, which has already been delayed once and is currently scheduled for a July 6 release. We haven't heard anything about the online brawler, which features Bayonettta as a playable character, in months and if anything was going to be the victim of Sega's downsizing it'd be that.
That said, we'll be on tenterhooks waiting for the contents of next week's Famitsu anyway. Bayonetta is one of our favourite games of all time and we'd love to see a sequel become reality.
