Avira antivirus help... PLEASE?!

I thought that i had the whole thing sorted out last night... but today... its back-fired.

I use Avira 10 on my PC that has XP and my laptop that runs Vista.
The one on Vista is Automatically updating with no problem... but the XP is being a real pain in the butt.

The past month, i've walked into town to get onto a computer to download manual updates. Last night i had them both automatically updating...like i said, today, nothing.

I've changed the LAN settings on the computer and turned off the firewall (whioh i did last night) and its now not working.

Can anyone suggest anything that could help me sort this problem out?
I've tried Avast! (Computer won't run it properly) and AVG (Which is over 4GB per update, and my download limit is 25mb)

Hmm, i wonder if i should get in contact with avira and ask for the fix...
