Alex Mercer and Dante

DragonMaster2010

Don't Let the Fall of America be Your Fall
I recent came upon this concept art of Alex Mercer from Prototype, and I can't help but noticed something about it.

Alex Mercer kind of looks like new Dante in terms of coat and hair from the left first one.

I thought it was pretty interesting.

It is interesting...

One of the best things about Alex Mercer is that it's easy to "cosplay" as him. I wear a zip up black hoodie all the time, and pretend that I'm him (what can I say? I really like the design).

Dante isn't quite as easy, but still easier (and less noticeable/eyebrow-raising) than Dunte. It would still take quite some time to find a jacket like his.

Its alright. New Dante is way more interesting to me. Speaking of, Prototype 2 was fun as hell, too bad studio got closed down.

I know right? I'd tell you more about my ideal game (involves Prototype + some others) but I'll save that for PM later (like, on another day, perhaps).

Edit:

Oh, and it seems like all the awesome game studios are closing down...

Darksiders II

Prototype 2

and finally...

Kingdoms of Amalur.

It's like people hate awesome games. :( (well not people, but Fate itself really)

The odd thing is that this tends to happen when you make an "every man" character design. Mercer is awesome and his outfit is literally designed from things that anyone could be seen wearing. The same goes for Dante; he's just wearing what anyone of his socioeconomic standing might wear.

Unfortunately, it's also a downside, because when you make an "every man" character, they tend to look a like. That's why small things become really important, like the design on the back of Mercer's jacket, or in Dante's case, just the subdued design of it overall.

My buddy has an actual Mercer jacket, and tends to wear a nice thin gray hoodie underneath it.

Mercer does have that "casual badass" look to him with his attire. But then, maybe it's because of all the crazy ridiculous things he can do.

With New Dante, the one that did bug me about his design was the hood. For me, the hood works on either short coats (Mercer) or long coats. Dante's coat sits inbetween the two types. Bleh.

Nice jacket. Wish I had one... but I'm not into leather. Not because I don't like the look, but because I heard you can't get it too wet. Either way, I really like the look, but I would dislike the feel if I ever had it on. I'm just more comfortable with something like cotton.

Yeah, I got this problem with creating my main character for a story I'm writing. Every time I think about him being casual but badass, I always have either new Dante, or Alex Mercer in mind. However I also don't want to make him too casual, otherwise he's not going to be as unique.

Well, I'm just basing my character off of myself. I have a rather large ego, I know. But since it's my story, I honestly think it's ok in this case.

Design your characters how you see fit, honestly, as long as it actually fits with the themes and elements of the setting you in place. When you have "every man" characters, they're going to end up slightly like other "every man" characters, that's just the nature of the beast, really.

Anyone who gets their panties in a wad because your every man character's design is close to another they know is missing the point of the words "every man." :p

you know what sucks is that this character and cole mcgrath were originally designed with hair and yet the development team decided to say "its much easier to render shaved heads" -_-

Probably that, and the fact that the fanbase didn't like Cole with hair. But that's just because fans don't like change.

I actually thought Cole looked okay with hair in his original design for the second game.

It made sense, too. It was after the first game, and more importantly - hair grows, people! Apparently game characters are never allowed to grow any hair other than facial hair :/

and now on EVERY video of the original infamous 2 alpha gameplay you see those same people that bitched about the change begging for a costume dlc with that version of cole -__- entitled idiots
