I don't watch much anime, especially the darker ones, because I get attached to characters easily and severely dislike it when they die unless they really had it coming. ._. That's why I find anime like Elfen Lied and Witchblade to be extremely hard to watch.
I have a friend, that every character she likes in every story, anime or manga, book or movie, game or tv series, dies. There are like 1 or 2 exceptions in thousands but still.
Some of them get killed at such terrible times too, as if the writers just didn't want to use said character anymore. Like Gen from Kekkaishi... *sigh* Poor kid...
Gen? Remind me. Shishio? If yes I liked him too, but his death was necessary. It was thanks to that, that the main character matured enough to do what he did next in the manga.
But damn, getting killed RIGHT after learning how to fully control his powers? I don't find that necessary at all. At least let him develop a little more before killing him off, instead of using him in a bunch of flashbacks.
Dunno, I loved the guy as well, but after reading the full manga, I believe that if he had lived, the main character would have done some very optimistic stupid thingsXD
I guess what really got to me is that he was killed off for real. That and the fact that as he was dying his skin was already starting to stitch itself back together...
