I actually kind of waffle with this. On the one hand, if everyone got to be what they wanted, it would be pretty cool. On the other, the "changers" would outweigh the "stalwarts". Both would have good reasons to do what they like, but one will probably become a minority. I suppose yes, I'd like if people could choose what they look like. As for why: Well, it's just one extra bit of freedom. It could be fun.
Would more people change and if so would it be drastic? If people could look the way they wanted I think you'll find most people, women especially, would change their bodies so they looked "perfect." Thin, basically. All that would do is make the body image crisis worse. People instead should be happy with and love who they are.
Which is why I was thinking that while it'd be fun, it should be limited to changing what you look like in a virtual world, not the real one. Would I love to look like Danny in real life? You bet I do, though the novelty of it would wear off after a while. Would I approve of people changing their looks just to look better? No. If people aren't happy with their own looks, then they need to build confidence.
Do you think virtual reality would make a good getaway from life's stress? Though, since it'd work on all five senses (if we're talking about VR in it's purest form, which is slated to be made affordable in 2014), you'd have to limit your time in any kind of VR to avoid, you know, starving and things like that.
