I noticed you said your hopes are "higher than they should be" which leads me to believe you, as myself try not to get too excited for things as they usual don't work out to plan which as you said can be a useful defense mechanism to prevent being overly disappointed.

But when you think about it what kinda life would that be, always being fearful of consequences, never able to take any risks for the positive, I know life can be/is hard and it is nice having almost a security blanket, but if you constantly feel things will turn out negative, I feel when they inevitably don't go according for plan,

while not being so disappointed, the overall outlook on the situation will have more of a negative affect on your life in general, try to see every outcome for it's positive side and what you can achieve from it.

I'm sorry if this doesn't make sense, or doesn't relate to you, as it's hard relaying a message through text, but honestly mate, life throws enough obstacles at you, that you shouldn't have to worry or punish yourself about the possible outcome, your a good guy and I wouldn't want to see you upset about anything :)

I'm basically in a waiting game at finding out if I'm going to be a dad or not. It was driving me a bit mad figuring out if I am or not, but I feel a bit better now thanks. Thanks for all the advice, it did make a lot of sense.
